Only Mfp'ers would understand...
OK, so I work as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher and am in charge of 4 year olds all day long as well as manage their p.e. My boss is pretty lenient when it comes to wardrobe. God knows it doesnt make sense to wear your nicest shirts and pants when your dealing with food, puke, and paint all day long. So my choice of wardrobe is a hoodie (school logo on the front and back) and yoga pants 98% of the time.
My boss just told me that another teacher mentioned that a parent said that it was inappropriate to wear yoga pants, and then when my boss confronted her, she then proceeded to cry and say it was because i look too good in them?!
So these are my thoughts, I dont think my boss confronted the parent however I do believe that "someone" said something about my choice in pants, and my boss took as they were jealous.
My question is this, why would someone try to tear me down. It obvious to most of everyone that Ive lost weight and am working towards my fitness goals, why would that cause someone to react like that... Ive spent 1 year dieting with no prevail, followed by diet and cardio for 6 months and diet and weight lifting the last 2 months, Ive worked hard for what Ive got!!!
OK, rant over. I have no one in my personal life who could even relate to this so i had to get it out...

I don't agree with anyone tearing you down, you've worked hard but on the other side of the coin I don't really think yoga pants are appropriate to wear to work at a school. I know my kids have to adhere to a dress code at school and there are teachers who don't abide by it and it rubs me the wrong way. I know they're adults and normally I would agree but when you're in the position of authority and being a role model which is what teachers are then I think they should be held to the same standards as their students. Just my two sense but I am sorry you felt attacked. There was probably a better way for her to handle it other than jealousy.0

I agree that a teacher should dress by the dresscode if the students have one. And our students do, but its just a dresscode that takes away themed cartoon characters and other commercial images, not yoga pants... my students wear leggings on a daily basis. The parent of the child who said something lets her little boy wear skinny jeans and rock t-shirts (not that i care)... But if people knew how much work it takes to be the teacher who does p.e. and everything else, yoga pants would be acceptable. We arent any sort of uptight school either. Our teachers have tattoos, we can wear hoodies, etc... Not to mention I have fibro and wearing jeans/slacks are SO uncomfortable...
But the issue isnt whether or not yoga pants are acceptable, because some people would say they are acceptable for teaching 4 year olds, and some maybe not. Ive just never been in a position wear someone has been so "jealous" that they would say something negative about my body... Its just downright hurtful...0 -
If it was indeed the case that your boss described, then it may be someone just lashing out because of their insecurities with their own body.
Either way, just adjust your wardrobe and move on.0 -
Like I said, I'm sorry she hurt your feelings. It was catty and mean and uncalled for but unfortunately people are mean sometimes. They say things if you're in shape or out of shape, you can't win. Just smile and move on.0

i wear yoga pants to work exclusively, we all do. i work w/ kids, it's kind of necessary since we're in a wellness facility. we could wear khakis, but why when yoga pants are an option, lol0

Right?! Ours is a school and we have an afterschool daycare program as well... My boss has NEVER had an issue and ive asked, repeatedly. Ive been wearing yoga pants for 2 years and now that im more fit its a "problem" with a parent? And ive asked my boss if she wanted me to start wearing "regular" pants, and she said no, she likes to wear yoga pants too on occasion! just seems odd too me... to look "so good" people say bad things...0 -

lol. yes, people don't get offended if you're overweight (which I still am) i am waiting for the day my wearing yoga pants causes people to turn against me, haha count your blessings.0 -

Touche... lol i suppose i should be happy...0 -
If someone complained all you can do is adjust and move on.
That being said, because I work in an office with no customer contact, I could wear my yoga pants. But I don't (I think I did once, and felt very weird about it). I still try and wear nice clothes because it makes me feel better, I guess. However, when I work from home (about once every two weeks), I'm lucky if I shower and get a comb through my hair.
Could you wear jeans? or is that a no also? I don't blame you, yoga pants are hella comfy - maybe just wear something else for a while and the whole thing will blow over.0 -
See Im constantly moving and running after little ones so dressing nice does the opposite for me. And I could def wear jeans, but tighter jeans are just as uncomfortable as loose ones. I guess im just confused as to how a decent body in yoga pants is offensive. And if its jealousy why mention it? The last thing i want to do is let my insecurities show...
Edited to mention that the complaint was to a co-worker, not my boss, so there will be no adjusting. I have fibro and run after kids all day, my comfort level is more important than one opinion.0 -
If your boss doesn't have a problem with how you dress, then I wouldn't worry about it. There are some people that just won't be happy for others. Maybe there's more to this than you know about, or maybe it's simple jealousy. Either way, congrats on what you've accomplished and keep it up.0

You have to go by what you feel and your boss's rules/school rules are. I am a teacher as well and we are not allowed to wear yoga pant, or even jeans throughout the week. We can only wear jeans on Friday if we make a donation to the charity our school supports. With that being said, it is my school's policy and school boards policy. If your school allows it, you have to do what you feel right in.0

I think more than likely the parent never said anything about being jealous that you look so good in them. It is more likely that your boss received a complaint about the yoga pants, and wanted to relay the info to you in a way that he (or she) thought would be best. He or she probably thought you would be flattered that someone thought you looked too good to be wearing the yoga pants. On the other side of the coin, whenever I lose weight there is always someone who says something that rubs the wrong way. (My dad doesn't know how to compliment, so it comes out wrong.) Sometimes it takes people to get used to the new you. Give it time.0

wow I am a big girl and I could not understand this!! I want to have a great body and I am working toward it but seriously? maybe sweatpants? to appease these cry babys0

Kinda want to know the gender of the other individuals... but unless they are short shorts and a tight tube top I think they have no right to say anything is inappropriate... now if you pants have some offensive design or slogan on it ('First come first serve") then yeah I can see that. Not trying to politicize anything here but there is only one type of miscreant that thinks we should all be equal and have the same things despite what we work for ourselves.0

The yoga pants are nike with no logo, flare style. The complaint "came" from a female parent, to another female coworker. The complaint was then told to my boss. I agree that something about this story is off. I have my own speculations but one thing is for sure, "someone" said "something" about me wearing yoga pants. Which in 2 years has never once been an issue, until now. Thats the part im struggling with.0
