Hello there,
My name is Elizabeth and I am about 5'6", 140 lbs. I know I am not "overweight", but obesity is a problem in my family, so I want to stop this weight gain before it continues. When I got married, I went from 113 to 133. Since then I have gained a little more, and it has left me with self confidence issues and some concerns. I don't want to do anything drastic like try to get back to 113, that would just be unhealthy. I want to be in between what I am now and what I was then. I would like to stay under 135, preferably at 130.
I want to get to that goal and maintain it, so that weight doesn't become a problem for me later in life.
I have started limiting my calories according to MFP. I also am lucky enough to have membership at my school's gym since I am a university student.
My husband and I started trying to lose at the same time, and that jerk is already down 5 lbs! I have Hashimoto's, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. We are both vegetarians.
I am posting here in search of some encouragement and advice on how to best approach this problem. What should I do to get in better shape?

Men, since we typically have higher bodyweights and greater skeletal muscle than women, tend to lose weight more quickly, so yes, he's going to lose at a faster rate than you.
How long have you been at it?0 -

I never expected anything different than that. It's just discouraging that he easily does what I struggle with.
I tried for two and a half months at the beginning of this year, and gave up because I was eating half of what I used to and there was no change. It's like it doesn't matter how little or how much I eat. I just started again about three weeks ago. I am, by no means, expecting immediate results. But it would be nice to have some sort of show that I am making a difference. I have been eating 1200 calories a day and doing cardio at the gym.
There are a few things that I know I can improve in my lifestyle, and that I am working on, like planning meals/grocery lists ahead of time and trying to cut out the soda.
The soda might be the most difficult thing. I get caffeine headaches. I might have to reduce the soda to one a night and drink coffee the first half of the day at first to prevent the headaches. I have to have my Coke, it's gonna be so hard. I don't have a lot of problems with food cravings, just Coke. It is causing me to consume way too much sugar.
I'm trying to make permanent changes to my lifestyle so I can be healthier.0
