Healthy (-ier) foods that grew on you

Somewhat as a counterpart to the thread about unhealthy food being tasty, I have a question:

Do you have any foods that you originally chose for health reasons and didn't really like but which grew on you?

For me, it's brown rice. I've eaten and loved white rice for as long as I can remember. Switched to brown about a year ago to increase my fiber intake. Didn't really like it at first, thought it was tough and tasted like wood.

Now I honestly prefer it. When I buy white instead, I miss the chewiness and added flavour.

I have also recently discovered that broccoli isn't the devil...

Sorry to answer my own thread but I just thought of something else: tea.

As a kid, teen and young adult I thought it tasted like boiled water. Started drinking it a year and a half ago and my addiction progressed very quickly from generic teabags to fancy teabags to loose leaf.

Speaking of which, I've only had one pot of it today... brb.

I used to completely despise yogurt, and now I eat it every day.

I cannot think of one thing on my menu that I started to eat for health effect reasons that I didn't like. I increased the proportion of those foods in my diet though, like veggies, fruit, wholegrain things etc.

My goal from the beginning was to get help changing my relationship with food, and learn to enjoy those foods that I like but in managed portions that fit within my daily caloric intake while making sure that I come close to hitting my Macro's... I will never label foods into categories of Good or Bad.... Best of Luck

Brown bread, and Quorn mince. I used to hate them both so much! Now I prefer them to white bread and beef mince!

Broccoli is a huge one for me. I love steamed broccoli with a bit of smoked salt.

Also, I used to stay away from bread/rice/cereal because I wasn't a fan of the taste, and if I did eat it I would only eat the white, heavily processed, sugar added (white rice with raisins and brown sugar was the only way I'd eat rice) kinds. If I had a hankering for carbs I would eat candy. Now I have no trouble with healthy grains (quinoa, brown rice, etc) and hate white bread. I love bread with some texture and heartiness like Dave's Killer.

I'm also starting to like fruit more!

    Baby spinach.

I actually cannot remember why I even tried it in the first place.... I'm thinking it was maybe at a Subway, IDK.
But I love the stuff! I put that *kitten* on everything! Except, I can't stand the cooked stuff! At best, I put a couple cups in my recipe for Red Pepper Goat Cheese Chicken Fettucini, but boiled spinach is disgusting!

Cottage cheese -- I used to be so turned off my the texture. Now I top salads with it, use it as a spread on wraps, dip veggies sticks in it, add it to scrambled eggs, mix it with frozen berries (highly recommended, by the way!) ... and on occasion, just eat it straight. YUM.

Also fish. I used to be really turned off by seafood (unless it was battered!) until my sister gave me some tips on preparing it. Snapper or red emperor fillets pan-fried in coconut oil is now one of my favourite super-easy weeknight dinners. I also had no idea I liked tuna so much until a few months ago -- tinned, seared, raw sashimi style ... OM NOM NOM.

And beetroots. How did I ever not like beetroots? I have no explanation for my past self's tastebuds on this one!

Cucumber! Hated it for as long as I remember but started making myself put it in salad.. Now I like it!
I also put tomato on something BY CHOICE yesterday, but I will probably never eat it on its own.

Other than those 2 I've always loved my fruit & veg.

#1 for me is spinach, in every form except canned. I used to put it in a salad or rich cheesy appetizer dip only, but it is AMAZING to me now...like it's actually one of my favorite foods and I eat it twice a week, minimum.

I have always liked eggs somewhat but now I love them.

Plain Greek yogurt is growing on me lately. I barely even add any honey/nuts to it...or just a handful of grapes or berries makes it plenty sweet to me.

I love veggies but just couldn't get into cauliflower. Now I love it (well, at least when I cook it.)

Greek yogurt and real dark chocolate.

I'm a foodie so normally I won't eat what I don't like the taste of (food must taste good, not just eaten fuel) but I really wanted to give greek yogurt a try for its health benefits. I tried plain greek yogurt and the sourness was too much so I went with the fruit on the bottom varieties for a while. Then one day I bought one of those "flip" kinds with the fruit stuff on the side, tried the yogurt by itself and decided I liked it plain so that's mostly what I buy now.

And becoming used to dark chocolate had a wonderful side effect of saving me from stuffing myself with junk treats! Now that I'm used to the really good dark stuff (85% or more cacoa), not just any old chocolate bar will do. If I want some, I have to go to a store that carries that kind of chocolate and be prepared to spend a bit more for the quality. It's not 100%, I'll stil cave for lower quality dark chocolate now and then (like Hershey or Dove) but most of the time it's just not worth those calories.

Definitely yogurt. I am not a picky eater by any means but the thought of yogurt used to turn my stomach. Now I eat is at least a few times a week. It's one of my go to snacks for when I am having a sweet tooth. Chobani makes a raspberry with dark chocolate chips that is to die for.

What a great thread! For me, oatmeal (without extra sugar), roasted carrots, broccoli any kind of way, tofu, tuna, oysters and mussels. I also had no idea how much I loved tomatoes!

I used to despise cottage cheese. Just watching my Gramma eat it was enough to make my stomach turn. Now, for some strange reason, I LOVE it! I mostly just eat it plain. Mmm mmm.

Avacado. I've started eating them more as I've been told they are very good for you. I made chicken avacado spagetti the other night and it was amazing. Thinking about it now is making my mouth water. I also mash up an avacado with a bit of lemon juice and use it as a dip for my carrot/celery/cucumber sticks.
