Proper way to measure

Just curious, when measuring for inches lost, do you measure both sides of the body and then count up the inches lost? Or do you measure one side and add up the inches that way? Which is the proper way to measure inches lost overall?

I put a measuring tape around my hips, waist, chest, neck, and biceps. It goes all the way around, so I'm measuring my whole body. You want to measure circumference, i.e., all the way around.

I have no idea how I could measure one side only, unless I had someone to help me by placing the start of the tape in the middle of my back.
  • By one side i meant one bicep, one forearm etc. And i measure all the way around BUT for instance my waist only went down .5 inches while my hips went down 1.5... I was just curious if both biceps lost inch each, does that count as 2 inches lost? or 1? Ive been going by 1, but i thought i might poke around to see which is the right way...
