losing a bit of weight and toning up - am i doing it right?

Hi MFP:ers! :flowerforyou:

I'm basically after some advice, and your two cents, on if I'm doing things right or not... So here goes:

I've lost over 20 pounds (just doing cardio). Now I weigh around 148-149 pounds. I'm 5'9. My goal is to lose a bit more weight, but I'm not in a hurry. Losing 1-2 pounds a month is fine by me.

More importantly, though, is that I want to tone my body and get LEAN.

Recently (about 3 weeks ago) I added heavy lifting to my exercise regime, which means that I'm now lifting 3 times a week, and doing cardio (running) 3 times a week.

My TDEE is (according to Scooby) 2550 cals/day. These last few weeks I've been eating, on average, 2000-2100 cals/day. I'm hitting macros around 30% protein, 30% fat and 40% carbs.

Do these numbers sound okey to you? Or do you suggest I change something? If anyone has done something similar to what I want to achieve I'd love to get your input! Also, free to add me as a friend, if you'd like!

Thanks in advance!

looks fine. for a bit of fat loss you only need a deficit of TDEE -10%...

also, measure/take pictures, dont rely on the scale as you may gain scale weight from the strength training due to water retention etc.
  • Your numbers look great, but if it were me, i'd eat a few more calories a day... maybe around 2350-2400. Keep the deficit very small. I'd also back off the cardio unless you just love it.

But what you are doing works well too. If its working, dont change it. Its that whole 'if it aint broke, dont fix it' thinking.

Great job and keep it up!
  • lifting while in a calorie deficit means you get to keep what you already have muscle wise, and lose some body fat..... you can only build muscle in a calorie surplus...

so lifting like you are, will mean you keep the muscle you already have, you wont be skinny fat once you reach you goal...

also i agree make sure your not cutting too much off your tdee, 20% max, good luck :)

and also agree, measure, and take pic's :)

Everything looks pretty good. I personally prefer 4 days of weight training and 2 of cardio. But that is because I prefer making the 4th weight training day an endurance day (high rep, low weight - a bit more anaerobic).
  • Alright, thank you! Most of you seem to be in agreement that I should up my calories a bit. I will think about doing that!

Also, how much would you say it matters how "clean" your calories are? I've been eating 80-90% clean, and 10-20% junk. Do you think I'll have to do even better if I want to achieve that really lean look?

Personally I dont think it matters at all "if it fits your macros" :)

Dirty or clean doesn't matter. Your look is more determined by body composition and genetics.
