Getting your good cholesterol up

Hi All -

Just came back from a check up and all my levels were good except that my "good cholesterol" was too low :( Doctor said to eat lean meats and such. I already do that. Any suggestions for specific types of food to add to get this number better (other than a generic answer like eat more fruits and veggies - already do that too)

Thanks for the help :)

    1) Healthy fats from things like olive oil, avocado, nuts, etc. Get your heart healthy mono and polly unsaturated fats.

    2) Omega 3...supplement with fish oil pills and eat more fatty fish like salmon and tuna

    3) Exercise

What kind of time frame after you make all these suggested changes should we see results?

I had completely changed my eating habits and exercised 4 or 5 days a week and after 6 weeks had my blood drawn. All numbers were great except for triglycerides (which had been cut in half...so good progress) and my HDL (good cholesterol) which was the lowest it had ever been! The suggested solution? Good fats, fish, avocado, nuts, oatmeal, etc. and exercise...which is what I had been doing...so now what?

That was 10 weeks ago...another blood test scheduled in January. Surely I would see some results then wouldn't I?

    Frustrating....
