Pilates Reformer

Hi Everyone,

MFP logs pilates in at such a low calorie burn, but I take a pilates reformer class where I'm breathing heavy and sweating like crazy and cannot possibly believe that I've only burned 100 calories in a 30 minute class. Has anyone worn a HRM? I need to get one asap!

Also has anyone seen really great success from Pilates reformer classes? I wanted to mix this into my routine 3x a week. My boutique actually does 30/30 with Spin and Reformer so I'm also able to get in a good amount of cardio on the days that I don't want to do a 60 minute reformer class.

I've worn mine during a pilates class that mixed the reformer with springboard and some barre work. My heart rate doesn't get super high when I'm laying down, but certain exercises definitely get it higher! I just started Pilates and only do it maybe once a week - still getting the hang of it.

Anyway, I burn about 310 cal per hour session (of a basic class), a little more or less depending on what exercises we do. I love spinning, and in contrast, I can burn almost 600 an hour in a really hard spin class. But I feel like pilates is more toning - and it's good to switch things up every now and then. On days that I do pilates, I try to do something else to burn more calories - like take a long walk.

Hope that helps! Your calorie burn will definitely differ from mine depending on a lot of factors, but for reference, I am 31, 5'8", and 141 pounds.
