How to calculate muscle mass

I know my lean body weight, and my water weight. If i subtract water from LBM, will it be all muscle? Thanks

nope. you also have things like skin, bones, organs, etc that have mass.

So, i still can look at it as an indicator of muscle growth (say, monthly), since it is the only variable... Also, the food in your stomach is included i guess... But, if i check it at the same time in the morning, having consistant diet, it should not be a big difference, i think...

How do you know your LBM? You'd have to keep having it measured to see any changes. The other things don't necessarily stay consistent either. A far better measure would be knowing your body fat%.

Got it checked at the gym.
I dont think my organs/bone grow fast enough to take them into account.
I know my bodyfat. I was asking specifically about muscle mass.

Well, im pretty sure it does a good job on water, cause since i start taking creatine water increased just like it supposed to... BF is not VERY accurate, but i think it is much better than calipers...

not to rain on your parade or anything and over a period of time it can perhaps be an indicator, but your bowel weight can have large variances (a couple of pounds actually and more so if you don't do it on an empty stomach), so if those gains are smaller I am not sure it is all that reliable. However, it's not to say that it wouldn't make a pretty graph if you were to track it once or twice a month over let say 6mths time.

Then you really don't know anything unless your gym has a BodPod, dexascan or a dunk tank.

Are there any gyms that have any of that equipment?
