What to do when you can't exercise?

Does anyone have any tips on how to exercise when pretty much you can't? And before some smart alec decides to call me a whinger or lazy read the rest.
I had a serious fall back in April and have been struggling to get back to exercise since. I have now found out that I have a ruptured ATFL and a grade 2/3 tear of the CTFL, along with this I have a severely bruised talis and chipped tibia. All of which is awaiting surgery in December. Top that off with a recent bout of pneumonia and you'll understand why I haven't and can't do much in the way of exercise.
Physio has pretty much told me that I can swim doing breaststroke once the pneumonia has completely cleared, walking and running are off the list as are any exercises that require high impact on the ankle.
Any sound suggestions would be welcomed.

Google chair yoga exercises; the link below is a youtube presentation, and ask your PT to recommend some upper body exercises that you can do without putting pressure on your feet/ankles/legs.
I hope that you recuperate nicely from your surgery and very sorry to her about your physical problems. Stay focus with your diet and good luck.

Eat clean and ask your doctor what cardio and strength training they recommend. Maybe some body weight exercises , yoga or Pilates and just throw some punches for cardio.0

Thanks for that so far, however, I should have also mentioned I live in a rural/remote community so access to a gym isn't possible.0

You don't need a gym to do Yoga exercises, some upper body cardio or pilates. Just Google them, go to Youtube, or maybe your local library has some DVDs that you can borrow.0 -
swimming is your best bet for exercise but I suggest you look into sit down execises for wheelchair bound people or even for obese people. There are many examples on youtube. The main way to lose the weight is what we eat and drink but I agree that doing any exercise will not only strenghthen that immune system of yours but help get you to goal. Just do what you can to make you sweaty. Make cleaning the house exercise, dance in your seat and get that heart pumping, do anything that keeps you active and keep trying.0

Time to fire up youtube or the DVD player, I think, too
Also check out 'floor barre' from ballet. You can move lot doing that, actually. You might only be able to do one leg, but feel it out slowly. It's zero impact, but your tendons can take a beating, depending on your tendons (mine are often bad, so I warn about tendons a lot).0
