Answer this if you are Belgian! :)

Every time I go to Belgium I come back thinking, HOW!?

Everywhere you go from lovely Brussels to fairy tale Brugge to sea side Antwerp you are bombarded with incredible tasty stuff:

Frittes cooked in animal fat with full fat mayo/Fritters
Macarons and their derivatives
Chocolates in ABUNDANCE
Endless lovely pastries
Waffles
Pancakes

When I go to breakfast places and order an intercontinental you get things like nutella, chocolate sprinkles, lotus spread (YUM).

Every coffee or tea you order comes with a carte d'or, a mini waffle or muffin, a couple of cookies on the side, EVERYWHERE.

I thought London supermarkets were bad, till I went to a Carrefour in Brussels, the selection of out of this world rich biscuits and treats everywhere, enough to make you gain weight by just looking at it.

So here comes the question, how calm you Belgians are so skinny?! :)

Are you all in on some evil plan to just feed everyone who visits you lots of sugar and delights so everyone else gets fat while you secretly eat your salads and rice cakes?!

I am serious, how do you guys not gain weight. The amount of hot skinny groups of women walking in Brugge's market square while munching on jumbo sized boxes of fries with mayo is spectacular! A sight to behold.

Yeah it's a lot like France lol. Carrefour (it's French, by the way) is a trap. I went back to France last year and wanted to buy the whole bakery section. But frankly when you live there, you kinda get used to it I guess.

That being said, my mom grew up in Belgium so I've been there a lot. My favorite of all things in Belgium is cramique. It's a loaf of bread with a lot of semi melted pieces of sugar in it. They had it in most bakeries in Brussels (I think they still do, my sister has been there recently). The most delicious thing I've ever had, and I could seriously eat half the loaf by myself every time.

Love the chocolates and the waffles too (the kinds with sugar pieces inside as well). Yeah... it's a trap.

It makes sense, get others to be fat while you site back, make money and enjoy being skinny. :)

I guess you are right, you do get used to it. My home country is famous for amazing sweets for example, and shawarma and other great foods, but you never see people going crazy over it, its only the tourists, locals are moving on with their day having normal balanced food and have the fun stuff once a week on a weekend, usually Sunday morning or lunch. Same can be said about most countries, I was just struck by how incredibly generous the Belgians are, they are basically giving you chocolate and good food for free! :)
