Buying a phone as a gift...

I want to buy my husband a new phone for his birthday. He currently has a crappy Tracfone. So I wanted to add a plan to my Sprint account and get him his first ever fancy smartphone. Only thing is, I want him to keep his number. Anyone ever transferred a cell number as a surprise before? Is this even possible?

My bf has had the same phone number for almost 10 years. We haven't switched from Tracfone, but he has switched to Verizon from At&t and now to StraightTalk and he has never had a problem. I know going to StraightTalk it specifically asked if you are switching a phone number from another provider to a StraightTalk phone. It was very simple. Good luck!
