Hey all,
I've lost 40 lbs and am nearing the end of my weight loss journey (certainly not my health journey)
And I've hitched dreaded plateau! It's been over a month....
I actually ended up gaining 5 lbs from eating back overestimated calories burned at the gym, but I invested at a heart rate monitor which is astonishing and enlightening.
Anyways, what did you do to lose those last lbs? Where did you find the motivation to keep losing? Also, my family is not healthy at all, how did you deal with the temptations of a bad diet around you?
Thanks!

Hi
Congratulations on your progress.
whenever I had a plateau, I changed my nutrition and increase lifting weights.
On the nutrition side, I analyzed my MFP food logs for the macros (protein, carbs and fats). I tried to increase the protein side while still keeping calorie deficit.
On the activity side, I replaced cardio time period with more weight lifting or increased weights amounts.
My experience has been, the closer I got to my "Goal Weight", weight loss became slower, like one pound a month. Please be patient. Slow and steady wins the race. I did not got all the extra body weight in 1 month, so losing it will also take time.
Good luck in your journey0 -
Everyone goes through a plateau of some kind. I just finally broke through one of mine. I was stuck not losing a pound for almost a month, and now this week I have dropped 2lbs. I read all kinds of things on breaking through plateaus and for some people it just takes more time than others.
I really took a look at my diet and made sure I was actually weighing foods and keeping an accurate count and what I was really eating.
I am very active at work, walk almost 10 miles a day per my fitbit, but on the weekends I would have a hard time getting half of that. So I went to the gym and used the elliptical to make up for it. My weight still would not budge. And then this week, it suddenly started coming off again. I think your body just plateaus and it takes time for it to let go of those extra pounds and move past whatever weight you are stuck at.
I am not a gym rat, and most of my weight loss has been strictly diet. So I don't know if my plateau would have been overcome much more quickly if I had put the time in the gym or not.
Try drinking more water, and watch your sodium intake. That is something I struggle with. It is amazing the amount of sodium in our everyday easy and fast prepackaged foods. It seems almost everything that is packaged is loaded with it.
Everyone has their own motivation, you need to find that on your own. The success stories here are good to check in on from time to time, and have given me motivation to keep trying and I will eventually get to where I want to be.
As far as overcoming your families bad diets, you are doing this for you! If your family members are overweight try to encourage them to eat more healthy, if they are not interested, keep doing your own thing. You have lost 40 pounds, it IS working.
Good luck.0
