Hi Family,
Needing suggestions on high protein / low carb food - i'm getting into a rut. I finally surrendered to the idea that my diet needed a drastic overhaul as I had not only stopped losing but gained despite exercise. I think that a lower carb plan is good for me and is working along with exercising, of course. My sweet tooth is becoming a bit of a pest too!!:grumble:
Anyone following this tiype of diet that has suggestions will be appreciated and thanks
Sill not smoking :drinker:
Make it a great day,
Janet

i use zuchinni in place of anything pasta....you can cube it, buyt what i do is slice it thin long ways, then turn it on the side and slice it again long ways, makes it look like little squsre spagetti noodles, and instead of bread or tortillas, i use a big romaine leaf and wrap it up in that.If i go out to eat, and all ther eis is like chicken nuggets or fried chicken, i take all the skin off, dap the grease off and eat that with like 2 side salads(bring your own dressing) you can also do a chicken roast in the crockpot, with liek brell peppers, carrots and brocoli, all the veggies you like and just let it cook low for however many hours you need to. I use chicken breasts and cook them for liek 6 hours on low. Also i make lean turkey burgers and eat them with jsut the fixins and no buns You basically just have to get used to the idea that you are gonna be eating meat and veggies only, and maybe fruit every now and then.0

I am not a huge low carb fan. I believe you do need some carbs to give yourself energy to function and exercise. Here are a few ideas I have to lower your carbs without going carb free.
Don't eat any carbs after 3pm. I eat about 30 carbs at breakfast, 15 at morning snack, 25 at lunch & 15 at afternoon snack(3pm). There are alot of lowcarb pita's that are around 15 carbs (I like Tafouyan mini pitas or salad pockets) I eat these as a snack or with my lunch instead of brad. Sara lee Delightful bread is also lower in carbs and calories.
If I eat fruit, it is only 1 serving (1/2 banana, 1/2 orange etc.) and only at breakfast. This would count as my breakfast carbs.
Think about your salt intake. Try not to eat packaged lunch meat. Cook chicken breast with different types of salt free seasonings & dice it up. You can use this with some chopped tomatoes, celery, cucumber & Dijon mustard for a great filling pita. Sonetimes all the salt we take in hinders our weight loss.
Make sure that the carbs you are eating are the good ones. 1/2 c cooked brown rice; 1/2 c cooked whole wheat pasta etc.
Also if you drink protein shakes, try using "unsweetened" almond milk instead of milk, this will save you about 8-10 carbs per cup. Also my nutritionist recommends drinking a small protein shake right before bed so that your matabolism stays working thru the night. (I use 1/2 c unsweetend almond milk & 1/2 scoop of max muscle max pro protein powder) make sure your protein is not just whey protein. Whey protein will digest in 45 min. You need to have some casin (? on spelling) protein in it as it take 3 hrs to digest, thus keeping your metabolism fired up while you sleep.
Also Kroger puts out a brand of yogurt called "Carb Master" This is a high protein low carb, low sugar yogurt that tastes great. For a snack I take a yogurt & mix in 1/4 cup cottage cheese. It is really filling. (remember cottage cheese has a lot of sodium, so you may want to either rinse it off or buy the meadow good dry cottage cheese to mix in your yogurt as it is really low in sodium (15 mg vs 300 mg in reg. cottage cheese)
My favorite dinner is grilled veggies with either chicker or fish on the grill.
Sorry this is long, but hopefully it will give you some ideas.0
