Strength training program for woman

So I really want to start a strength training program. Any recommendations about good ones to follow. I do a lot of cardio and I'd really like to do less of that and more strength. I have a lot of weight to lose(over 100lbs) and I dont want to lose any muscle mass. I'd also like to tone as I go rather then losing a lot abd then toning. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Hi ~ I am doing one called All Pro's, here is a link to a group on MFP. You can read the stickies to learn more about it. I have been doing it for about 12 weeks and love it.

Of course there are many others, I think the best one for you is one that you like and are consistent with. Good luck!

Where are you planning on doing your strength training (at home or in the gym)? I didn't know where to begging when I was new so I asked a trainer at my gym if he could help put together a program for me. Best move ever... I know it can be expensive to work with someone but worth every penny spent. In the beginning it's helpful to have someone help and help fix your form if needed. If that's not an option I do have a 3 day per week plan you can look at if you want to PM me but in wouldn't give up the cardio. I still run 6 days per week. If you are doing this from home I would consider p90x or a similar program.

Any men's training program is fine for women. Strong lifts is an easy program for a beginner.

Before you start any check out all routes.
I love the kettlebell route. They are fun, they can tone you up or bulk up, and they can also work your whole body.

I downloaded a bodyweight training program from Liftlikeagirl. Haven't really started it yet, but you may want to google it to at least see what she says.
