i really stretched myself running yesterday and woke up with a sore throat. this has happened a few times before when i do more than i am used to. has this happened to anyone else? what causes it and what do you do about it? it goes away on its own in about a week but i usually don't/can't run during that time. advice?

I used to get that really bad and I think it was due mostly in part to the horrible air quality where I lived. The earlier you run, the better the air quality tends to be. Also, really focusing on inhaling through your nose and not your mouth should help reduce getting all the yucky smoggy air going down your throat and into your lungs. Some people are really just sensitive to these things, too. I was told years ago I had asthma, so I'm sure that doesn't help me either. Sorry this was probably not much help to you, but good luck! I'm sure the more you do it, the more your body will be accustomed to it, too.

I get this sometimes but it usually only last a couple hours at most. I usually drink lots of warm tea. Drink drinking a warm beverage when you get back from running and see if it helps.

I have had it happen in the past but always thought that it was allergies.

Is it only this time of year? Could be hayfever. I use a nasal spray regularly during the season for all hayfever related symptoms and it definitely helps with the sore throat.
