Birthdays & Weddings & Holidays... Oh my!

So It's getting to be that busy time of year again. This month in particular, I have a lot of birthdays (including my own), weddings and other seasonal events to attend. In the past, It's always been a huge struggle to be in a situation with limitless good food surrounding me. I end up either thinking about food the whole time and how bad I want some or binging on the amazingness... I know part of this is because I'm pretty restrictive with my diet, and the other part is because of a previous eating disorder, but there's got to be something that can help. I want to enjoy myself! So I guess I'm just wondering how everyone handles the temptations when surrounded by good food? Will it ever get easier to be around a bunch of food and not want to eat it all?!

It helps me to make up my mind before hand. I decide that I am not going to eat any of it before I even get to the party, that way the decision is already made and I don't have to think about it.
I have had a lot of practice lately because my work always brings in a lot of amazing high calorie food. I already decided that it doesn't fit in my goals and won't touch it, so when I see it, it is easy to just walk by and not think about it.
If there comes a time where I am really tempted by something, I tell myself that I am stronger than my craving, or I am stronger than that donut. It helps me to resist.
On your birthday, you should treat yourself to something. Just don't let it derail you.

I remind myself that I have had plenty of food at plenty of occasions over the years, and it isn't necessary for me to indulge at every event or on every occasion. Just because events and occasions involve food doesn't mean they have to be all about food. I never thought I would get to this point, but I had to realize, I am the boss of what I eat and I won't let food control me.0

I try to take the healthiest choice available. I may indulge once, but not every time. living a healthy lifestyle doesn't mean you have to stop enjoying life and doing the things you used to do.0

Make sure you don't arrive to an event hungry. If you can eat lightly the day before you can also carry over some calories and honestly doing a little celebrating isn't a big deal.
For me I just go with it and if I want cake I will have it. It took me 10 years to get fat so if I don't lose my 1/2 lb this week I don't really care. I'm not going to end my life over it. There is a BIG difference between having a nice dinner and a small desert as opposed to going back for second helpings of dinner then eating 2 slices of cake, a tart, a piece of pie and a brownie (which is what I would have done before).0
