Tattoo Ideas for a Sleeve

So, while in my pursuit for epic arm cannons and general fitness, I am contemplating getting a tattoo-- a full sleeve in fact--and would like to enlist the help of MFP to track down a cool idea/design. I am a software engineer/mathematician, so I like the biomech/cyberpunk themed tattoos. I want a theme that gives the impression that a machine is taking over.

Here are some examples:

Those are cool, and I think sleeves are hot. My recommendation would be to communicate your likes/theme ideas to the artist and have them draw something. They've got the talent for a reason. If it's one of their designs, 9 times out of 10 it's going to rock.

the first one is reeeeeally cool, love it. I am hopefully going to get my tattoo soonish (still saving up) but I second the suggestion that you should let the artist do their thing. way better art comes out of it especially if you just have a general design theme in mind.

Thanks for the advice. I always wanted a sleeve, but I work in an office environment and didn't want to piss off management. Now I frankly don't give a damn.

awesome! I put it off for a long time because I work in an office but nowadays I realize that companies that don't allow tattoos are far and few between. go for it. :-)

BEWARE - don't just go to an artist and let them do their thing. Research artists BIG TIME. Look through a lot of portfolios .... weed out the ones with poor technique and then narrow the solid tattooers to ones who specialize in the style you want your sleeve done in. It's worth it to drive a few hours for a good artist....it's your whole arm for your whole life and it damn well better be good.

This is coming from 12 years experience being tattooed and being 1/4 covered (I have some ****ty *kitten* tattoos, too, only because I was impulsive and didn't care who the artist was. For the past 5 years, I've stuck with the same guy because our styles mesh.)

Yikes. I definitely agree with you. I have a friend who is an amazing artist. He has a great black and grey portfolio, which is the style I like and will need for the biomech work.
