Does anyone else find entering everything they eat annoying?

I would rather log my food than be fat.0

No, it doesn't get annoying. It a great way to keep me honest in what I eat and how much I can eat. I always know where I am at. It's a great help!0

It's a little annoying, but it's what I need to do to keep track.
If you find you don't have time because of baby. Until the time where you find the time to do it, you could just eat more mindfully instead of eating everything and anything. Not saying that you necessarily are, just saying that sometimes just thinking before you put food in your mouth helps.. I know I use to graze all day when breastfeeding, and although I lost weight even doing that, once I got back to work and stopped breastfeeding, I didn't stop the habit and that's what cause my belly to become pregnant looking again.
Or think of your logging as a way to help you control what you eat before you even log, especially if mindlessly munching throughout the day, which is way too easily done with a baby as sometimes it's the only thing you feel you have time to do. Such as . if I eat it, I'll have to log it... am I really hungry/do I really need to eat this now/Can it wait/Is there a healthier alternative?0 -
Yeah it is really tough. But as many have said it is certainly worth it. I just gotta find that groove again. Narf.
I don't find entering my food annoying. I actually find it sort of cathartic. We are all different, though. I had my 3rd child, about 10 months ago, and my hands are very full (I have 3 kids under 5). I think what you said is true - you just need to find your groove. There's not much more to it. I find that it's a great way to take care of myself. I do so much for my children and husband, so tracking my food/calories is something small i can do, just for me. I think you have to find a way to enjoy it, so that it doesn't become something you resent. I really love eating healthy, and budgeting my macros. It's like a fun game, for me. Be patient with yourself. You'll get this!0 -
It like it.
Except when there is something I just can't figure out how to add in. Like there's this speciality bakery I want to go to and there is no way I can even begin to calculate the fancy sweet I want.
But it's really satisfying to plan what I eat for the day or realize I haven't eaten that much so I can eat some tacos or something.0 -
I think it gets easier the more you do it as your most frequent foods/ meals are easy to find so you don't need to search and enter every single thing unless you're eating something completely new. So I think it's worth sticking to for to a while! It'll also become habit soon.
And definitely try the app again, I have a Samsung Galaxy, too, and I find it works well (not perfectly but well enough!).
The only thing I find really really annoying is that I want to be accurate with my calories but I have lunch given to me at work and although I can control the portion, I don't have any choice in the content! I sometimes bring my own lunch so that I know exactly what I'm eating, but then I'm passing uo on free food, which I can't always afford to do!0 -
I found being fat a lot more annoying.
this...0 -
It can get that way. I was pretty obsessive in the beginning. :noway: Use quick tools and just enter the calories. It only tracks the calories but it's fast and easy.0
-
Honestly the most value for me is to enter it before I eat. Gives me a perspective of what I have left to eat (calories and macros) and let's me be a bit more rational about it.
After the fact allows me to eat on the fly, and I'm still getting used understanding nutrition so I'm more apt to make errors.0 -
I've been here a little over a year. I stopped counting a few months ago. I weight train 3 times a week and do a little walking and/or yard work for cardio. At first, I was maintaining so I adjusted what I eat and am losing (slowly) again. You just have to learn which foods are better for you, how much is an adequate portion, and how to balance your treats and snacks.
I still use the diary on occasion when I'm just curious about something I haven't had before. If I think I've had too much on one day, I'll add in a little cardio or eat less on another day that week to make up for it. I'm still losing and I don't feel obsessive or deprived of anything. I don't eat breakfast anymore and my lunches are one of the two lunches I was eating back when I was counting; the higher calorie one on training days and the lesser calorie one on rest days. I know that this leaves me plenty of calories for a satisfying dinner (I like big meals) and an occasional dessert.
Don't get in a hurry about it. Just keep trying different things until you find what works for you and what you think you can continue to do for a lifetime.0 -
Whether "dieting" or not, people tend to eat a lot of the same things over and over...once you log for a bit, all of that shows up in your frequently used or recent list...I pretty much plan my day ahead of time and log everything while I'm sitting down for breakfast; it takes me maybe 10 minutes to log my day...pre-planning my day also helps keep me in line. I occasionally have to make changes, but not often.0

I think the annoying thing is when you first start and have to search for foods. I don't know if I just eat the same things all the time, but I think its easier as time goes on because everything is right there. Its really annoying when you can't find specifically what you ate after trying all kinds of searches.
I also agree, prelog what you will be eating and make sure to stick to that. I know how it can get at night between making dinner (some times 2 different dinners), cleaning up, getting kids to bed, bath, etc....especially on one of "those" days and the baby has a blow out and the older one "just remembered" he DOES have homework 30 minutes before bed time and needs help with it. But remember it really does take just a couple minutes total to have your whole day logged. Just another routine to get into that some people find easier to get into the groove of then others.
No **** kids sleep. That's also when YOU should sleep. Obviously some people haven't had a 4 month old before.0 -
At 1st I was. I started writing mines down, or either programming it in my notes on the phone, at the end of the day. I go on & log my foods. That helped me.0

Same here0 -
I spend less time logging food than I do creating a forum post and responding to it a bunch of times.0

I find being fat way more annoying.
Anyway, you don't need motivation. You need discipline. Motivation comes and goes. Discipline is what you use to do it anyway, even when you're not motivated.0 -

I tend to eat mostly the same things, so once I log a food, it's pretty easy to find what I need in the recent foods tab.0

Yes : it annoying and time consuming and awful. I hate it. I despise counting calories.
BUT! it's a necessary evil. Whenever I get grumpy about it I just repeat over and over again:
Suck it up, buttercup! It needs to be done.
Make a routine out of it... it will be slightly less annoying.0 -
Not anymore. I used to feel that way, but now I have my regular meals saved and can rapidly enter what I eat from there. Sometimes I'll substitute an item or two, but that is way faster than entering each item individually. I also use the app and the barcode scanner for quick updates of items.0

Try some time saving tricks.
For instance rice can be cooked in big batches, measured out into individual portions shaped like hamburger patties, wrapped, and stacked in the freezer. Microwave it and it comes out like you just cooked it!
My trick for meat - make roasts. I follow low temp cooking methods (very low temps, like 60C for pork and beef, 90c for chicken) and you don't need to keep an eye on it. Slice it up and freeze/refrigerate. Then use the MFP entries for raw meat and multiply your serving weight by 1.2
Eggs - watch Heston blumenthal's YouTube video. Using that method you can "boil" a dozen eggs at a time, no problem.
The key to all this is when you cook, cook a lot of stuff you can easily portion out.
Is it just me or is this off topic?0 -

And this. My logging takes 5-10 minutes a day most of the time.0 -
I've even logged what was I was going to eat, then went out to eat it.0

I strongly believe that if something is important enough for us, we will find/make the time to do it.
I have a friend in the US who claims she has no time to log into MFP and record her food, but she does have the time to faithfully watch " Honey Boo Boo " and the " Kardashians ". Don' quite understand it.
OMG! You need to save her RIGHT NOW! Intervention is needed!!
She recently retired and thinks it is her " right " now to watch this crap. She also tells me about a show where people buy lost suitcases for a 1000.- dollars or more....lol.0 -
For me it used to be so annoying but now I find it really useful. Logging has actually made my life eaiser in a weird way and saved me a LOT of money! I log my food the night before, which forces me to make my lunch and pack snacks for the day- I almost never buy lunch anymore, it's saved me hundreds of dollars! I almost never eat precisely what I planned for breakfast or dinner, but it gives me a framework and makes me feel like I've already accomplished my healthy eating before the day has even started! Planning ahead also helps me remember to use up ingredients, so things don't go bad in my fridge as often. yay!0
-
Not really. I kind of like seeing what's going on.0
-
I use a samsung galaxy and the app I have often glitches out0
-
I want to thank each and every one of you for your valuable input! I have the motivation now to get back to it with a new found perspective! it's never easy starting a new routine but once established life will be good again.0
-
using mfp when you go to add food, you will see a little bar code icon. Click on the icon and it is able to scan the labels. then you just add to your diary. it is so cool.0
-
Yes I finally learned the art of the bar code! Not gonna lie I had fun using it lol0
