Im down to the home stretch and I know that in addition to the cardio an diet changes I need to add some strength training in. My dilemma however is that with 3 small children and a full time job, it has to be something I can do at home. The other obstacle is I have very limited space....any suggestions? Ive looked at resistance bands, but have no idea if they are worth it.

I highly recommend a program like Group Power or Body Pump. This is a fun, choreographed group program featuring relatively light weights and many repetitions. It is most popular with women but classes are often mixed (I am male and at my gym we have quite a few men in the class).

How small are your children? When my twins were tiny, I used them for weights, especially for twists... and I'm only teasing a little. I was the strongest I've ever been when their combined weight hit 55 pounds and they still needed lugging....

leasah - I can't recommend ChaLEAN Extreme highly enough. It was exactly the strength training I needed and in less than 90 days I went from a size 12/14 to a size 6. The workouts are short and extremely effective. It's a 90 day DVD program you do at home. You can use resistance bands or weights based on your preference. Please feel free to send me a note for more info about it.

  • i love the bob harper inside out method, pure strength video! you can do the 20 minute workout or the 1 hour, whichever is convenient for you and use any size weights you like... as a parent, i know price is important and i got mine for only 12 bucks at target!

It's sort of an older book, but Jorge Cruise's 8 Minutes in the Morning book was a huge success for me when I first began to weight train. You think it sounds like nothing but it does work and it doesn't take a lot of time. Try to see if the library has a copy or find a used copy. It's a good way to start but you'll want to go further within a couple of months.
