Skip Day?

I have been working out every day solidly since I have been on MFP (I think...don't quote me on that but it's pretty darn close). On one hand I have a friend who "has all sorts of fitness/weightloss people in her family/friends" and swears that I'm overexerting myself by not allowing my body a break.
On the other hand, I have a friend who lost a lot of weight naturally by exercising/calorie counting who says that my one friend doesn't know what she is talking about. I enjoy working out every day and I only do 40ish minutes of hard working out and maybe some light walking as well. What are your opinions?

If you have no symptoms, it should be ok. The usual symptoms are fatigue, reduced performance, or anxiety / insomnia.
There's more detailed info on over-training here:

If you're taking NO REST DAYS and working hard daily then I agree with your friend. A rest day is certainly in order-maybe not weekly but every 10ish days or so would do great things for your stress levels (hormonally).0

It really depends on your routine. If you are working different parts of the body every time then you should be fine (ex. chest/back one day, legs another, etc). Listen to your body - if it's just cardio, you should be good, but muscles do need repair time if you're lifting.0

It all depends on your definition of working out. I generally do some sort of fitness related exercise everyday, some days lighter than others. When my body tells me to take a day off, I take a day off. As long as I keep a day or 2 with yoga, stretching, walking my dog in the week then my body doesn't revolt.
It all depends on the person, the schedule they are following and the intensity they are keeping. There is no hard fast rule that fits everyone.0
