So I have a $25 gift card for Chapters and I'm heading there later today to buy the first Game of Thrones book, yay! However I'm also going to use the card to help towards my fitness goals...does anyone have a go to 'bible' that they recommend for health and fitness information?

I'm not a newbie, but sometimes it is nice to flick through a decent book for some motivation and ideas. As far as diet goes, I think I have that covered....although some in-depth info regrading eating when training would be welcome. I know how to build my cardio fitness up, but my weak area is strength training. I go the gym, use a few weight machines, gaze in awe at the heavy lifters and leave...and books that would help me progress beyond this?!

Your suggestions are most appreciated!

The two books I see recommended the most here on the forums are

New Rules Of Lifting For Women
    Starting Strength

....and I think there are some groups here that help provide support/encouragement/explanations to the contents found in these books.

    Good luck!

I read SS last day and while it's okay, it has a lot, and I mean a lot, of superfluous filler in it.

Lots of good nuggets of information, but that only comprises about 1/3 of the book.

Just because they spend 86 pages talking about squat mechanics, doesn't mean its filler.

Did I say that was filler?

Giant 1/2 page photos of power lifters. Yeah, that's filler.
