I really KNOW what I'm doing wrong.

For the last, oh, three months-ish, I've been on a plateau of my own devising. When the plateau started to morph into a back-up-the-scale slide, well, I REALLY know what I'm doing wrong.
1. Eating too much.
2. Exercising too little, or, truth be told, not at all.
In fact, I've always known that was the problem: eating too much and exercising too little. It's so simple.
What is not simple is what is in our heads. For some of us it is denial. ("I just don't know what I'm doing wrong and, oh, yeah, I have cheat days or I don't have a food scale or it's too much trouble to keep a diary.) For some of us it's a lifelong habit of using food for comfort, food to fill those empty spots in our souls. I fall into this latter category and it's a hard one to get out of.
But I have only two choices. Challenge and change my behaviors to live a happy and healthy life or die young after years of discomfort and semi-invalidism. I am lucky that the first choice is open to me. If I don't take that choice, I only have myself to blame.
I don't imagine I'm the only one in this particular boat.

Thank you - well said. "cheating" on your diary is only cheating yourself. I am the only person responsible for me.0

Everything you said is sooooo true. You are so supportive of others and your blog is great etc. now you have to practice what you preach and be good to yourself. You know we are here for you.0

Very true. We are in control and no one else.0

Breath of fresh air. If more people came to this realization, there would be less frustration, and less people labeled as 'mean' when they try to point out reality.0

We all need to get to that place of honesty with ourselves; it's true for any addiction - food, drugs, or alcohol. Until you're willing to take the rose-colored glasses off and face the hard truth and reailty, chances are you're not going to be successful.
At least you've admitted that you've been self-sabotaging; the question is what will you do with this realization?0 -
Like a breath of fresh air!
Well done the first step to fixing a problem is to admit it exists, all the best with your future endeavours.0 -
You are a smart, college educated woman. Plot out your path. Add daily walking and swimming if it is available to you. If you want to eat more, add extra exercise. Even if you don't want to eat more, walk an extra 10 minutes and keep adding on. You want to do this and you can do this. Do this for you.0
