USB port on Matrix Fitness exercise equipment?

Hi, all. This may have been answered elsewhere, but I couldn't find anything that seemed to match and the Matrix Fitness website doesn't seem to have details.

We recently moved into an apartment complex with a gym stocked with Matrix Fitness treadmills, ellipticals, etc. We're kinda new to the whole gym workout thing and noticed that most of these machines have a USB port. Does anyone happen to know what this is for? Is it simply to charge a phone or are there apps that can connect to it with a phone to log your progress? I'm sure it varies from machine to machine, but these are all made by Matrix Fitness.

I figured there are lots of fitnessy people here on MFP, so surely somebody knows. Thanks for any info you can provide! :)

  • Hello Midnight_Mari,

I am an avid MFP user and believer in the product but I also happen to work at Matrix. The USB ports on the equipment are in place to allow for console software updates and diagnostics to be run so that we can make certain that we are providing you equipment that stays online and is fully functional. The products that you have unfortunately don't tie into apps. However, we do have a new line of products-the 7xi series-that ties into apps but most importantly, automatically sends your workout summary data to MFP. Thanks for posting the question and good luck on using the MFP service.
