Weaning

I guess I'm not one of those people who lost weight while breastfeeding. My infant is 9 months old and I started the weaning process this week. I'm nervous that I will gain even more weight by ceasing to nurse - however, I've heard that for some people, the pendulum swings the other way. For those that nursed, what happened to your weight when you weaned?

I lost near all of my pregnancy weight while breast feeding very quickly. When I stopped my weight just stayed the same. No loss, no gain. (I wasn't trying to lose at this point)0

I weaned my 10 month old, last month. I have nursed 3 kids, and haven't had a weight issue after they weaned. I was concerned it would be an issue, every time, but my body never reacted by gaining. Good luck! Congrats on making it 9 months!0

I was one of those who didn't really start losing until after I weaned.0

Calories in/calories out. If you over eat after you wean you'll probably gain just like if you over eat when you're breastfeeding you don't lose. Breastfeeding isn't a magic weight loss potion, it's just harder to know exactly what your deficit is because you can't be sure how much you're burning to produce milk.0

I actually gained weight while Breastfeeding the first few months while eating pretty good and working out. I didn't lose all my weight until I was done nursing, it didn't just melt off though I had to work harder. My best friend would eat a whole cheesecake a day while nursing and still lost weight! Every body is different.0

I do not lose weight while nursing either. My son is 11m and still nursing on demand. He has slowed down some so I'm finally starting to see some loss. I have three older kids and same with them. I didn't start really losing till they where down to nursing only once or twice a day or till they self weaned. So I say focus on eating well, exercise, and self discipline. That way when they do stop it will come off fast!0

Every woman is different but I lost all the pregnancy weight plus 10 pounds by the time my guy was 5 months old. He's still nursing like a champion after his first birthday and I'm pregnant again, so no more weight loss for me!
I agree with DarthPato, stay focused on eating well and exercise, those are the only things that will get you anywhere permanently anyways! Good luck with your goals!0 -
I didn't lose until I weaned either.0
