How to stay positive when you have the urge to give up

I've lived almost 15 years overweight. I've been bullied on it, I've cried about it, and then I ate my feelings about it. When I get discouraged I binge eat and lose any motivation for months. How do you stay positive when all you want to do is give up?

You come here!! You read about what others have had to go thru to get thru the day of eating healthy!
You reach out to one of your friends either on here or in "real life" ;)
Write in a journal about how being overweight has make you feel and how you WANT to feel. Don't let the past dictate your future! Don't let the cravings win!
Don't feel sorry for yourself, take a 10 min walk and look around you and think of how much better you would feel if you just stayed under your calorie goal JUST FOR TODAY! Thats all you have to do really. Just eat healthy for today. Just do exercises for today. Don't worry about tomorrow.
You are taking the first steps in overcoming cravings by getting on MFP and getting friends to support you an posting what you did! Keep doing what you are doing. Please don't give up. Just make it thru today! :flowerforyou:

I personally just look at the bigger picture. Sure losing weight sucks now, but my goal is more important than the pain I'm suffering through. One thing I learned is that losing weight will not happen (for the most part) until you learn to love and accept yourself. Once you can do that, it no longer becomes about losing weight. It's about becoming a better you.

You can do it. Don't let your past demons keep you from loving you for who you are. Good luck.

Well for me .. it is all about making progress. As long as I know that what I am doing is actually working I will keep at it.

I have been a little concerned lately as my weight loss has stalled .. I haven't lost any weight for well over a week. I was concerned as I didn't think that I was doing anything wrong.

Well this is the inspirational part and why I keep on plugging on. I have been working hard at the gym .. and well I thought that I am not losing any weight, maybe something is changing though. So I made a measurement today .. and realized that I have lost another inch .... an inch in 8 days. My biggest issue is my midsection .. and knowing that I am down another inch is huge for me as it is my biggest issue and the cause of all my emotional pain. For me that is enough to keep me motivated for a long time.

So your motivation may be different than mine ... but just when I thought nothing was working, I had wonderful news. That is my motivation.

Feel free to add me if you like. I would like to share in your success.

Exercising helps me improve my mood a lot. I've used it to get through bad spots in relationships, deaths of loved one and just normal stressful work days. And its a positive cycle. If you exercise to improve your mindset your body will improve and you will feel better physically and mentally.

Reading the positive stories on here helps. I know I am not alone and not the only one struggling with these problems. Exercising also helps to pick me up especially when I am stressed and in the past would have used food to feel better.
