Homemade Protein Bar Recipe
Thought I'd share my homemade protein bar recipe. I got the idea from scoobysworkshop.com and just modified it slightly.
The following makes 5 bars with approximately 225 calories and 30g protein in each bar.
1.) Rolled Oats - 1 cup (1 serving)
2.) Protein Powder - 5 scoops (I use ON 100% Whey Natural Chocolate)
3.) Honey - 21g (1 serving)
4.) Peanut Butter - 32g (1 serving)
5.) Ground Flax Seed - 13g
6.) Skim Milk - 1/4 to 1/2 cup (depends how soft/hard you want your bars)
To prepare:
1.) Get a big mixing bowl
2.) Get a sheet of wax paper and lay out on counter
3.) Sprinkle flax seed all over the wax paper (you'll use this to roll your bars on once prepared)
4.) Dump rolled oats, protein powder, honey, peanut butter, and skim milk in the mixing bowl
5.) Mix with your hands (you can run your hands under cold water to help keep it sticking to your hands)
6.) Take a chunk into your hands, roll it into a ball, and then roll it around on the flax seed on the wax paper.
7.) Make 5 of these (estimate size) and put into a tray, cover with aluminum foil, and let sit in fridge 30-60 min
These should last about a week in the fridge if covered up good. I bring these with me to work for a snack between lunch and leaving work before dinner. Good way to prevent getting starved before dinner as well as getting in some additional protein in a tasty, homemade snack that doesn't have a bunch of garbage in them like the store bought bars do.
Give it a shot sometime. It takes me about 15-20 minutes to make these and I'm a guy that sucks at cooking stuff.

It is really good actually, tastes almost like a candy bar. The best part is it requires no use of the oven or stove or any other appliance, just a mixing bowl!0

The key is to watch how much milk you add. If you dump in too much, it becomes a soggy mess. You have to toss it in the fridge to harden it up before you shape it. If you add too little its all clumpy and dry. I just add a little, start mixing, and then add more as needed to get the right texture.
I've also found that rolling them into hot dog shapes, while convenient and easy, ends up looking like poop, literally. Haha! So I try to shape mine like a Clif Bar, sort of a rectangle type shape.
You can also form them into little cookies and stick some dark chocolate chips on top by dipping the chips in peanut butter and sticking them on the cookie. Sort of changes it up.
For more flavor you can add a lot more peanut butter, but of course that adds a lot of calories as well. Just depends on how you want to make them. But its definitely an easy thing to make. I've been making them for about a year now, they're the perfect on the go snack.0 -

I made these tonight. I forgot the seeds and changed skim milk to unsweetened almond milk. There are 6 turd shaped protein bundles in my fridge.
I'm trying to add a couple of lbs so these will be nice to throw in with my lunch.0 -
