Need a kick up the bum...

Hello!
So I've been on mfp for a couple of years now. Gained some weight when I first got with my fiance, lost it via calorie counting on here and exercise, but have gradually put it back on, and now have like 20lb to lose.
I'm signed up for a half marathon in Feb next year, and I'm meant to be getting married in 2015, but I can't find the motivation or energy to do anything about it. And I used to love running.
Doesn't help that I started work as a vet three months ago and am perpetually tired (and comfort eating ice cream which I've never done before)...
Basically need someone to tell me to stop being so lazy and to do something!
Thank you!!
Alexa

Being so tired might have a lot to do with it. Make sure you're getting enough sleep and enough to eat (small calorie deficit and eating back exercise calories if using MFP method).
I've never done a half myself, but I know that a lot of people find it hard to lose weight while training because you need plenty of energy to perform well, so it's harder to do that with a calorie deficit. Not saying don't do it... just maybe accept that if you're going to feel energetic and do well in your half, the weight loss might be slow. But, you've got over a year to lose 20 lbs, so that's not so bad.
As for getting back into it, maybe try a beginners programme like c25k, just to get you back running regularly? Or if you're already beyond that then just any structured training plan might help. Sometimes it really is just about forcing yourself out the door, even when you really don't want to. Don't wait for the motivation to kick in, because that might not happen!0 -
KICK KICK KICK KICK...I feel the same way about my eating habits lately. I hear you about being tired after work but sometimes I good workout wakes me up. I try to work out everyday after work no matter what is going on, I hate starting it but that feeling after is so worth it. Over time you will notice you are not so tired. You can do this you have done it once just find your groove again and KICK BUTT!!!!0

Have you been to the doctor to rule out a thyroid or some other issue (since you said you are tired all the time)?0

I have found a quick morning workout (15 -25 minutes) gets my metabolism going for the rest of the day and I don't crash after work like I did before. oh and KICK!0

misread...thought you were looking for something entirely different.
sorry.
carry on.0 -
Want to gain another 20lbs? No? Then get off your butt and get moving!0

OK, consider yourself kicked
A huge congrats on becoming a vet ....... no wonder you are tired ! I think you need to get some rest, eat some healthy food & get a bit of fresh air each day ....... also, now is the time to make some positive & perhaps radical changes to your lifestyle ....... figure out what your PRIORITIES are ...... dump anything that doesn't fit.
BTW, I work for a vet ..... a word of advice, step away from the fastfood & junkfood that always seem to be around !
Best of luck :drinker:0 -
Performing well while on a deficit: GU. Or any other running gel. Keeps the bonks at bay for only 100 calories. I used to carry them with me always.0

BWAHAHAHA!!!! Sorry, but seriously, this made me literally laugh out loud!!
That out of the way - you've totally got this! We all have dips but just the fact that you realize you need some encouragement and are looking for help should tell you that you can do this. You know all the cliches, so I'm not going to repeat them. Don't think about actually getting the strength to go for a run - just think about getting your running gear on. Once that's done and you're standing outside, there's not much choice left.0 -

Ummm... a bit off topic, but what's a GU???0 -
sign up for a cooler race that you wont be able to just walk/run through like a SPARTAN!0

I've got the day off tomorrow (yay!) so I'm going to lie in for a bit in the morning, then pump up my bike tires (been meaning to do it for about 2 weeks) and go for a ride. Nice easy way to go back into it.0

I thought you said you are getting married in 2015 but you have no motivation to get back in shape??? that is motivation....atleast it would be for me to marry my love and look/feel great while doing it????0

I know, I have all the reasons to do it... he needs to lose more weight than me... and whilst I'm sure I have plenty of time it's going to take him longer and I know we should start... I just need to feel passionate about losing weight and getting fit like last time I did this.0 -
In my opinion you would be better served learning to count calories and reduce your daily calorie intake gradually and slightly to lose weight in a controlled slow manner.
You really don't need to go out and do any kind of activity you don't enjoy.0
