Just want to give a shout out to my fellow canucks - since our Thanksgiving is less then a week away, then halloween, then Grey Cup week (its in my home city this year - uggg the drinking and parties), then christmas parties, then christmas, then new year).

Just want to to say WE CAN DO IT! No new year's resolutions becasue we will be well on our way to reaching our goals by that time.

I needed the motivation for me!

Yes, we can definitely do this! Not saying I won't indulge, but I'll be careful of my serving sizes, and try to have extra lean meats and veggies versus potatoes and gravy.

For Halloween, the last kids to my door will get the entire bowl of chocolate and whatever other candy I have dumped in their bags.

Christmas - EEK! That's a tough one for me. So many parties and yummy-ness. I read a tip somewhere before to help keep yourself from really over-doing it is to only have a small treat of something that you only get at that time of year. For example, if someone brings in donuts, just leave them - you can have a donut anytime. If there's a special cookie that your Mom makes only at Christmas, then be sure to have one (or two!) of those.

For me, I need to also make time for exercise. That's another issue that I need to keep focus on over the coming Holidays.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!

Hello Canadian MFP folks -- Happy Thanksgiving. I've got the full-on family thing happening and, at last report, pumpkin pie, Girl Guide cookies, truffles, "Monkey Pie" (secret family recipe, actually banana cream cheese pie) will be arriving to be insistently offered throughout the weekend. Along with The Meal Itself. However, I'm committed to just truck on with my special-events method, which is not to sweat logging everything, but putting food on my plate once (no vague grazing) and paying close attention to only eating until I'm JUST beginning to feel full. Will be having some of the Monkey Pie.

Halloween... love your idea of just handing over the rest of the candy to the last kids. Then there's making sure I don't skim my daughter's stash. But after eating clean for the past month I have to say that crappy chocolate and gummy eyeballs don't sound very tempting.

I'm hosting thanksgiving and from past experience I'm so going to indulge. But it's one day so no biggie. I'll make up for with all the fall hikes and apple picking etc..

I've already started the cooking and I'm going for lots of flavours instead of fat and cals. I've already made cinnamon almonds, low fat gravy that was full of flavor after simmering for an hour :) pear maple compote for crackers and a Greek feta cheese spread. A little goes a long way.

I just need to watch the grazing and the testing. That's what gets me !

Christmas I don't struggle with as much. Most party food doesn't have a pull on me anymore. I'd much rather a good meal at home than snacks :)

I HATE HALLOWEEN. I can get rid of all the junk that I buy to hand out, but then I get three times as much walking back in the door from my kids. I actually thought of offering them each $100 to not go trick or treating this year. LOL.

I can handle the potluck parties now, I make sure to bring something that I can completely indulge in guilt free. I also make sure to eat before going out, that way I am not so hungry when I get there. I look at Christmas all and all as two days - Christmas eve and Christmas day. Other than that I eat super good. Plus we will be on a sunny vacay for over a week less than a month after Christmas so hopefully that will keep me in check.
