You can take it however you want to...

EVERYTHING can be taken in a positive light or a negative one. Think about "whatever"... if you HEAR it followed by what appears to be an eye roll it's agrivating but if you say it after your friend asks you which color looks better then you know what I am talking about. "Have you lost weight?" is no different, neither is "you have a beautiful face!" (don't start thinking that the rest of you sucks just because you happen to be drop dead gorgeous in your face). I'm thinking that the hand models (who are paid rather handsomely) <pun intended> probably aren't crying all the way to the bank just because nobody said anything about thier butt.

I know what you mean. Sometimes it seems pretty hard to accept a compliment as a nice thing. I don't mind, when someone tells me I have a beautiful face. Hell, I know I have. LOL
On the other hand it's not always the compliment, that makes me feel uncomfortable. It ALWAYS depends on the way it's said. For instaance, my mother has a habit that drives me nuts. She knows I try hard to lose weight. She also knows the reason and most of the time she is very supportive. I love her for that. But there are days, when I stand in my kitchen and weigh my food and she stands next to me (because she visits often - yeah, I have no own life ROFL) and then says something like ... "BUT you have a beautiful face" or "BUT you have a wonderful character". I seriously hate this little word "BUT" the way she uses it. It sounds like an excuse or like it's enough that one part of me is good enough and the rest doesn't matter. Although I love to hear a compliment now and then (come on, we all do), such compliments are pretty useless.

I think so too and I'm glad you brought it up! I have 68lbs to lose, which at the start seemed huge. Everyone would ask me how I stay motivated. I just think to myself, when I reach my goal weight I'm gonna be able to say I lost nearly 70lbs! Those words will taste so sweet coming out of my mouth! It's worth it!
