Im 18, vegan and have been since March.
It felt great but then 2 weeks in I got awful bloating that never left.
I lost my periods (before I went vegan due to stress i think, but they havent come back)
I thought it would help my eating disorder but it got worse in some ways
I lost so much muscle from getting 30g protein a day, 60 when i reaaaally try and im a climber and aerial silks artist who trains
I feel sad, depressed, unmotivated and emotionally unstable.
I want to trial being veggie again but dont know how to tell my parent (I dont want to tell my friends yet)
What do you think, is this because of my diet that I feel like this?

Speak to your parents (or another trusted adult) and seek professional help for your eating disorder.0 -

Is your depression a symptom of your diet, or is your diet (and ED) a symptom of your depression.
Big chicken and egg problem. Could be one, could be the other, could be that each is exacerbating the other (most likely, I would think).
You need to treat both - please talk to your parents, or a counselor. You need to get help.0 -
I had sad days due to ed getting me down but felt happy because of improvements. Not full blown depressed. No one knows about my ed.
don't fully u deist and stealths comment about chicken and egg problem. Could never eat meat.
Spoke to parents and I'm testing out being vegetarian again and having things like greek yoghurt from the most animal friendly sources I can find. Thanks guys.
Anyone know any good yoghurt based protein sources from good brands? Thanks!0 -
Chobani, Fage are good- they have different flavors or plain ones too. Good luck!0

I would definitely try to talk with your family. Maybe you are not eating enough overall because of your depression and ED.
As far as being Vegan, I can't imagine how you are only getting 30g of protein. Definitely check out vegan blogs and websites for advice about eating a balanced vegan diet. I probably get more protein now than when I ate meat in the past. Black beans, chickpeas, lentils, quinoa, peanut butter, and soy are just a few of the things that have a lot of protein.0 -
Definately, being a vegan is not for you. Just eat meat.
*Assuming, you are eating a well-balanced nutritionally diet. But I don't know how is that possible for vegans. But i'm pretty sure it is, taking enough fats and proteins...0 -

You need to see your doctor. It could be related to your weight loss or it could be a hormonal imbalance. The only way to find out what's going on is to get it checked out.0 -

Let me be more clear. It's an analogy.
Chicken and egg problem: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?
In your case, which came first (or caused the other): the ED or the depression?
The point is that we don't and can't know. It could be the ED causing the depression and your feelings of ill health through nutritional deficiencies. Or, it could be that your depression is the root cause. It doesn't really matter from a practical standpoint. Both your ED and your depression need to be treated by someone who is a professional, someone who can diagnose what is going on with you in person.0
