Sodium Intake...

I have been doing the 21 day challenge: no sweets (candy), no cake, no white bread, no chips, no fast food, no ice cream. This is day 21. I tried to quit pop also, but it popped up here and there. I still drank significantly less pop. But I weighed in at the beginning. Weighed in again at the half way point. And weighed in again this morning. I lost 8lbs at the half way mark. I lost 0 since.

I have been counting my calories regularly. I have tried to stay under my calorie limit. Drank lots of water. Exercise when I have time, albeit only walking the dog. But I'm rather disappointed I didn't lose anymore the last week. I feel like I lost inches (no I didn't do measurements, yes I know I should have). My clothes fit looser.

Could this be due to my sodium intake. It is always high, I assume because I lean more for the salty things rather than sweets. And at times have to rely on pre-prepared items, which I know are always high in sodium.

Regarding your question, you answered it by admitting that your sodium levels are always high. A lot of people on here may say that it does not matter, but to me it does. Try and reduce it to at least 1500 mg per day. If you have to be over, no more than 2000mg. I was having a lot of problems with sodium, reduce it to 1500 mg and try to stay below 1000 mg on most days. I hardly have any water retention; drinks 100% cranberry juice and a vegetable/fruit/water mixture most days that have helped me a lot.

so in total you've lost 8 pounds in 3 weeks....I wouldn't be *****in' about that. Weight loss isn't linear...you don't get it every week, week in week out...it comes in clumps...you have weeks with big losses, weeks with little losses...weeks with no losses and even weeks with water weight gains. I would personally suggest a bit of perspective and get your expectations in order. 1-2 Lbs per week is solid...even 1/2 Lb in a week is good weight loss.

I wasn't *****in' about it. I was asking for help so I don't just maintain but lose. But I appreciate your input.

I'll definitely give this a try! I've read that I shouldn't drink my calories. Does the fruit juice help prevent water retention.

This. I don't think you're going nuts or anything, but you do need to understand that 8lbs. in 3 weeks is a good amount and that sometimes you just don't drop every week. Sometimes your body needs time to catch up or sometimes it's a certain time in your cycle (I gain during ovulation). So, I wouldn't worry. Now, if you went every week without a loss, that would be different, but one week... nah. No worries! As for sodium, most people can process sodium with no issues. I regularly stay under the 2500, but even when I go over unless it's a HUGE jump, I have no issues. The human body is amazing at regulation, so I doubt that is really the issue. I would say you're riding the regular waves of weight loss. If you're happy with what you are doing, just keep going and I'm betting by next week you'll see another drop. Good luck!

I have never had any problems losing weight and i use salt on everything. I prefer salty food over sweet food aswell. If you have a health problem that makes you have to limit salt intake i can understand, but otherwise, i dont know why people make such a big deal about high sodium foods. To each their own i guess.
