This idea came from another topic started.

What are some of the dumbest spotting moments/practices you've seen in the gym?

I'll start, I was doing OHP and this kid who was working in with me, jumped in to touch the bar up while I was half way through my last AMRAP rep... I could have ****ing killed him. It was the last day in my 5/3/1 cycle, and I had been training for 3 weeks to get to that lift...

These kids need to learn that a spotter is there to keep the weight from pinning you, not to help you with your working reps!!

I've only spotted a few times but ive seen many occasion giving me a wtf are you doing moment. One thing that realyl annoyes me about spotters who don't know how to spot is seeing someone start a set and within 1 lift is already helping with the lift, I don't know whether the blame lies with the lifter for lifting too much, or the spotter for not knowing how to spot.

Mine isn't a dumb spot story, more a dumb save story.

Years ago when I trained regularly at a commercial gym, I had ear phones in and was benching. I was nearing lock out and all of a sudden I felt the bar being pulled back, towards the pins. Some random guy, out of no where, decided to rescue me. I wasn't struggling but I guess he thought I was and decided to save me.

Because I was in my own head, listening to music, I never even heard his approach, just felt the bar being wrenched back. He got a very sternly worded lecture. That's an awesome way to hurt someone.

I now mostly train with my team or my husband, I don't get a spot from anyone who doesn't know how to properly spot on a competition platform including a liftoff that doesn't pull you out of position.
