Will doing squats make a flat butt bigger?

Rule of thumb for men - in any given environment, if you'd not feel comfortable discussing your erectile dysfunction, shut the hell up about menstrual cycles.
Edited : Rule of thumb for men - shut the hell up about menstrual cycles. That's better.
I wish more people had that take- if it's good for the goose- it's good for the gander. I have met so many insecure men who want to make fun other people but the second you question ANYTHING about them and their behaviors or patterns- they are like- oh no I was just joking or wahtever.
fairs fair- we talk yours' then we can talk mine. or vice versa.
other thing that bothers me... don't talk about my period guys- I had a guy straight up ask me "oh are you PMSing or just craving chocolate"
not someone who I am intimate with- or a girlfriend type... just a friend I talk to once or twice a week maybe- and I said i really wanted some chocolate.
i was pissed- so inappropriate- so rude. I told him I was planning a 2 PM sh1t and a 3:30 pee break- and then one at 5- since he was so interested in my bodily functions.

Just looked at your exercise diary. 2 hours of walking/jogging along with pushups and leg lifts EVERY DAY.
Seriously dude. No.
I have not been on MFP in a year! I just got serious about working out again. So yea.
Not you. I was talking about that Ron dude who said a bunch of nonsense about what women need.
Aw okay! sorry for the misunderstanding.
Although, your diary is private. If your exercise consists of hours of cardio AND some minor strength training every day, you are doing it wrong.0 -
Check out Justagirl1978's pics! I would say a resounding YES!0
-
Yessss it's working for me
ETA: I always had a butt but it didn't have much of a shape until I started lifting heavy! Thank you squat!0 -
Mine grew half an inch in a month! Buttbible and food! Yeah!!!0

Why are some people telling the girl that she needs to eat at a "surplus"? LOL..... For one women have Menstrual Cycle's, those can wreck havoc on ones blood sugar level and that is what can cause food cravings. Some women (older I'm sure) can also have PMS, which can cause depression, which a lot of people when feeling down, eat comfort food... so no, eat at a calorie deficit at all times, eat less, not more to get defined & exercise to get toned... At 5'5" & 142lbs Im sure you already look fine but that depends on your build. petite, medium or heavy boned? Everyone has a butt, even me. However if you have a layer of belly fay creating a muffin top then that can be giving the illusion that you have no butt. You have a butt Im sure, its in there somewhere...lol
I would suggest eating clean & healthy, drink water & be the best that god designed your body to be... Jogging, walking, bike riding and some minor weight training can help build and sculpt your body and of course, your butt... look at female weight lifters butts... They all have back, and so will you, but its up to you & your level of dedication. GO FOR IT!!!
Haha what a load of tripe !
I am an older woman ...so old in fact that I don't have " Menstrual Cycles " any more and I certainly do not THINK i have PMS but Hey I don't have an appendage so what do I know ?
What I do know is that for most of my adult life I have had a flat butt however since I lost some weight and began lifting as heavy as I can my behind has changed shape..It is more lifted , rounder and does not have the "underhang" that merges with the tops of the thighs if you know what I mean.
I do Stronglifts 5 x 5 and lift 3 times a week . I love squats with weights and deadlifts and they have been great for my behind.
^^^This is awesome!^^^
I've always had a crack in my back, and it's encouraging to see a little um...growth(?) back there. I'm eating a deficit, lifting heavy, but apparently what little IS back there is actually visible with a bit of fat loss.0 -

Wow, I'm starting to get disappointed with the immaturity being shown here. I think a majority of you kids misunderstood the point I was trying to make... Instead you turn things around into a big joke instead of having a mature discussion...0

Responding will only make the hole you've dug that much deeper.
No need to bury yourself in it. Just walk away.0 -
If any of you people know of/or are a MD, nurse, have PHd then tell me this then...
Is it possible, that a menstrual period CAN cause spikes in a womens blood sugar? Yes or no?
Is it possible that blood sugar spikes CAN cause food cravings? Yes or no?
Is it possible that a woman MAY have PMS without being diagnosed? yes or no?
Is it possible, that a woman who has PMS MAY have depression? yes or no?
Is it possible that people when depressed, can turn to food for comfort? yes or no?
If any one of you can honestly say "Yes" to any of those statements, then why ridicule me?
@jonnythan... everyones level of fitness is different, who the hell are you to poke fun at me for my 2 hr walk & sets of pushups when you yourself used to be 62 pounds heavier? not cool dude.....
The big difference between people like you and me, and this goes to all you ladies talking about my "member" or "appendage" is that you will never be at my level and I certainly will never stoop down to yours.... Bunch of kids...0 -
BTW.... good idea to close your profile and diary. Wouldn't want people to see what you're eating or what exercise you're doing.0 -

Whether or not these statements are true, can you tell me what exactly they have to do with eating at a surplus. Are you saying that females should never eat at a surplus.
P.s. OP squats will help you get a rounded butt but hip thrusters are better for glute isolation as squats tend to work the quads more. My butt was pretty flat but afer 8 weeks of strong curves (Bret Contreras) I'm starting to see fantastic shape. I love it and highly recommend it0 -

women should eat more iron rich foods & increase their vitamin C but when people say "eat at a surplus" that doesnt mean go to town at the all you can eat chinese buffet either... However in order to lose weight you have eat less calories. Iron rich foods include spinach, broccoli, prunes, raisins, Turkey, beans, soybeans, liver etc.. Just continue to eat clean but be more selective in what you eat.0 -

OP wants to build a rounder butt. This involves building muscle. This means you have to eat at a surplus.0 -

Its spelled "KNOWLEDGEABLE" however I've seen very little knowledge and a lot of immaturity here on this forum.... I'm out....0 -
I dunno about you ladies, but I am SO glad some big strong man has finally come along to tell me how to deal with my menstrual cycle... I've only personally been bleeding from the vagina every month since I was eleven, and it has always been such a horrifying ordeal with all the uncontrollable eating, weight gain and depression.
Oh, wait, no it hasn't. It's PMS, most women get it, we all deal with it in different ways. The person who is LEAST QUALIFIED to tell me how to deal with my bleeding vagina (which had bled approximately 192 times in my life at time of writing) is someone who has never had a vagina and hasn't bled once from it.
Sorry, I digress. OP, I would like to be kept up to speed with the chronicle of your search for a better butt.0 -

Sorry for the spelling error, I must be on my period.0 -
Squats, deadlift and stiff legged deadlift all target the flutes.
I've always had a flat butt and I'm trying to improve my lifts. I started adding hip thrusts, Bulgarian lunges and weighted step ups onto an 18 inch platform. Never been so sore in the rear end ever! Took a couple weeks to get the muscle used to that activity.
Asked the wife if she saw any improvement, her response...."yes, but you have a ways to go" and then giggled. She was just teasing me.
Squats are up after adding the accessory glut exercises but I have a long way to go. And that's okay, I'm a project that will be years in the making.0 -

RonW956, are you just not getting that women don't want to hear your insights on their bodies?
But I'll bite, just for a second. Even if, for a defined set of individuals (which may or may not refer to the entire female gender), there may be certain circumstances (which may or may not be menstruation) which make eating at a surplus more challenging, it doesn't change the fact that to get a rounder *kitten* you need bigger glutes. And to get bigger glutes, you need to do appropriate resistance training at a caloric surplus. Your answer more or less says "you can't get bigger glutes because you're a woman, with women's problems, and therefore shouldn't eat at a surplus." Which is, put frankly, rot.
By the way, my wife is both female, and a healthcare professional. I put your questions to her and she responded "you need to stop talking about my period". I explained this was an important matter I was debating with another man, and she broke the pen she was holding and responded "Seriously, you need to stop discussing my period".
So there you have it. Conclusion is that women want you to stop talking about their periods.0 -

lol, ok I get it.... No..... I didnt mean to sound like that.. My intentions were good, Its the "surplus" part that maybe I misunderstood. when I hear "eating at a surplus" I envision someone eating because they feel thy're not eating enough.0 -
Well, genetics do play a major role. However, squats and various other exercises, namely weighted hip thrusts and deadlifts will help improve the shape of your rump.
By the way, jogging is the quickest way to pancakedom. You want to do sprints or uphill sprints for cardio. Hope this helps.0 -

If you want to build the muscle, yes you'll need to eat a surplus. However, you can create a rounder shape in a deficit. My booty did perk up, although I do have a pretty round butt to begin with. Use a barbell and gradually increase your weight. Also glute bridges and hip thrusts will help. Check out Bret Contreras, the "Glute Guy", as well. I'm just starting his Strong Curves program which is full body, but focuses on building a butt.
^This
Contreras is the accepted expert in working out your bum. You'll need to bite the bullet and eat at a surplus for at least a couple of months, maybe more (depending on age/genetics/nutrition/sleep/etc) and then do a cut to shred the inevitable fat gain.0 -
