Vitamin help/advice

I have been taking a multi vitamin. (womens one a day pro edge) I'm out, so I've decided I'd like to take more individual vitamins vs a multi vitamin. Can someone point me in the right direction on figuring out what I should take and amounts. General advice is welcome as well. Thanks

A multi will give you way more bang for your buck, particularly when you realize much of the vitamins we take in supplement form get washed right out in our urine.
That said, over the years I've read a ton of articles and research trying to figure out what I need. I came up with:
Multi (I take Kirklands from Costco)
CoQ10 (apparently as we age everyone needs more and it's helpful for your heart)
Vitamin D (I don't get much sun and don't drink milk)
Fish Oil
Curcumin/Turmeric (for the anti-inflammatory properties)
Does it help? I don't know, but it's not hurting. Don't take mega doses of anything because it's a waste at best and could harm you at worst (depending on the vitamin).0 -

Due to the above plus there is no 3rd party studies proving multi vitamins even work, 13 years ago I started taking Juice Plus+ which is fruits and vegetables in capsule form, food with a nutrition label NOT a vitamin with a supplement label. If a more whole food based solution interests you let me know and I can provide you more details.0 -
Without a blood test to determine where you are deficient, taking individual vitamins is hit and miss. I take a extra D due to doctor's orders. Otherwise I would just take my multi.0

I just take my multi, calcium, and vitamin C. The calcium is per doctor's suggestion and the vitamin C is because I'm a poor teacher who can't afford that EmergenC or Airborne stuff.0

I do the same - I'm in healthcare so I like the extra boost of Vitamin C. My calcium has added Vit D and magnesium for absorption (plus they help with mood!).0 -
I used to take numerous supplements, had a health issue and was evaluated by several physicians (I am a nurse). I always thought that, as people do, "what can it hurt"? Well, one MD told me "you have the richest urine on earth"---most are excreted by the kidneys; others said it was a waste of money and several said that it can cause harm (won't go into the types of harm, it's based on the average daily requirement and the way the body does or does not metabolize them--if you have a diseased liver or kidneys, it can make you sick). So, to end the rambling, I take a multivit, extra calcium with D (my age), vitamin C, joint supplement (chondroitin) and cranberry supplement. I encourage you to ask your health care provider or see a nutritionist. Vitamins, herbs and supplements can cost a bundle and why piss them in the wind!!! Literally, because of the excretion and most might not be absorbed, etc... Spend your money on a heart rate monitor, good video or a healthy meal! Just my 2 cents!!0
