Is Weightlifting even legal in the UK anymore??

Since we joined the common market (Europe) 50kg bags of sand, cement and plaster etc have been replaced by half bags 25kg in case we hurt ourselves. Delivery people can't deliver over 30kg on their own and when I brought a double glazed door from B&Q they wanted me to wait while they found three people to lift it. With all these restrictions on what is allowed when it comes to heavy items surely they have made weight lifting illegal, if not please let me know and I will write a letter to Brussels to point out the fact they overlooked it!
