Smith Machine leg press

my gym doesnt have a good leg press machine or even a hack squat machine, so i have been doing these as my 2nd or 3rd movement to my squats on leg days. i alternate it in rotation with stiff legged deadlifts. really im just curious to see if anyone has been doing them for a extended period of time, and do you like them, or not. i personally like the movement and with it being a full verticle press it really makes my quads do some serious work. currently im using it as a heavy, but high rep movement. 430-520lbs 3-5 sets 10-12 reps. when i change my routine to a higher weight, lower reps routine after the first of the year ill probably make it my constant #2 and shoot for 600-700 for 3-5 reps.

not any more. in high school yes, 655 to be exact, but i am talking about leg press using the smith machine. some call it a guillotine leg press.

as for my current squat i have no clue what my 1RM is at. i do 315-365 for sets of 6-10 depending on the weight. im guessing very low 400 range is where im at and that is on free bar in the power rack

I don't do them- for various reason- one of which being when i see women doing I have random thoughts that aren't all nice.. .and there fore I refuse to become one of those women.

BUT I have heard- they are excellent at hitting a spot on the bottom of the glute. I don't know about long term use- but yes- I have heard they are good.

yeah, they do leave you quite "exposed" and show off the junk, lol.... but the quad activation is unreal. yes, glutes and hams come alive too due to how deep you can go with the weight.

Rofl, I'm too confused to put into words exactly what I'm thinking...

You're upside down pushing the bar with your feet on a smith machine?

    yeah on your back.

*kitten* out-- there is a super bad *kitten* picture of a guy doing it with a bar bell- the smith machine is yet again a cheater way to do it- but most people don't have lifting shoes with a proper heel- that and it's probably scary as frack to have a freestanding bar bell over your head.

yes, exactly. its actually very easy to do and very effective as a 2nd or 3rd movement. i set the safeties to where it will catch it if i was to lose the weight. push up with your heels and pivot your foot to release the bar locks. tons of videos on youtube to demostrate the movement.
