My name is J.R. and I am from Louisville, Kentucky.
I discovered MyFitnessPal over the weekend while poking around the Android Market on my cell phone (HTC Evo). I downloaded it along with several other calorie counter apps. Thankfully I decided to test MFP first.
I am 6'3" and weight between 215-220. I have not weighed less than 200 lbs in 10, maybe 15, years and need to. What I have read about my "ideal" weight suggests I should be 185. Not sure that I can or even want to get down that far. My first goal is to get to 199 and then we'll see. 20 lbs isn't a long way to go, yet has been something that I have not been able to do for 10+ years.
What I have seen thus far of MFP is awesome. I used it religously yesterday and so far today (even inputting .25 slice of bread when I ate my kids scraps from breakfast).
MFP changed my eating behaviors yesterday and taught me a ton about the foods I do eat. My main demon is sweets, Mountain Dew in particular. Knowing that I had xyz calories left and that I had to post it reduced the number of Dews that I drank yesterday by at least half. I ate very little for lunch and was doing great as of 10p last night. I still had a positive balance of 300 calories to use before I made the mistake of eating 10 Twizzlers while playing on the computer. MFP taught me that they are loaded with calories and sugar which I didn't know. I blew a great day because of that mistake but MFP helped me learn that it was a mistake and not to repeat it.
I love the mobile phone app and how it ties in with a full-blown online service, all of which is free. Great work.
What I haven't found online that is on the home page of the Android app is 'Nutrient Summary.' That data appears to be available on the web but you have to select one category at a time and that is not particularly efficient or as useful as the summary. Where can I find the complete nutrient summary online? Hoping it's here and that I just haven't found it yet.
My wife is doing MFP now also. In fact, I'm going out today and hopefully upgrade her phone to an Evo so that she can have access to the app as well.
Best of luck to everyone using the program and thank you to those who provide the service.
