Weightlifting neck problems

I have been doing Bodypump for about six months now and have been gradually increasing the weights.
However, after one class I noticed my neck (spine) had started making an awful crunching noise when I turned to the side (both ways). There was no pain but I was a bit worried. I reduced the weights again, especially the back section which might have caused it? and the crunching faded away but comes back sometimes.
Does anyone know what this is and how to avoid it happening? Or is it nothing to worry about?

Well, crunching without pain is not always a reason to worry. But it's unusual that it started suddenly. Try doing some neck stretches, like these:

When you do abdominal crunches, check that you're not jutting your head forward. And when you do bent-over rows, get your neck & torso almost parallel to the floor - don't look up at the instructor .. that could tighten your neck.0
