Gallbladder Removal Using Davinci Robotics

Has anyone recently had their gb removed by the single incision Davinci robot? I just had mine removed Tuesday night and could really use some words of encouragement. From what I've been reading online, my body will never be where it was before surgery. It seems like bloating is a major problem for most people and I'm getting pretty depressed. I know I'm now supposed to eat an extremely low fat diet, and eat small meals several times a day. Does this sound correct to anyone? Most doctors will tell their patients to eat normally after surgery, which is probably why people are still having bloating issues. Any thoughts or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. I guess it really doesn't matter how your gb was removed. We all end up in the same boat, so to speak. I guess I'm wanting to know if anyone has had success with keeping weight off/bloat down after removal. Thanks! Lori

Had mine removed a little over a year ago. The first few months were pretty blah, many emergency trips to the bathroom. But everything is good now. I don't have trouble with bloating. I've lost 63 lbs in the last 10 mos eating pretty much whatever without regard to a special "gallbladder diet". Good luck.0

That's very encouraging. Thank you!0

Bile is used by the body to emulsify fat and make it easier for the body to absorb, you just lost your supply of bile. Your body will adjust but it may take time. Low fat diets may ease some of the discomfort while your body adjusts.0

Mine was removed several years ago - I agree with this post; my Dr. actually told me to use metamucil, and that seemed to work. After a few months, I quit the Metamucil and have had no problems since. IT WILL GET BETTER!!!0 -
I had my GB removed a couple of years ago. Just from my own experience I can say that weight gain or maintenence has not been a problem for me as a result of the removal.(broken foot, now that's another story). However, I did have to make changes in my diet. No more heavy greasy foods.
And as far as my body being where it was before surgery, I wouldn't want to be where I was before surgery. constant pain, couldnt eat, couldn't exercise like I needed to... it was horrible. After my surgery I was just so thankful that I could eat a cracker without going into hours of pain.
Once the pain of the surgery goes away I bet you are gonna feel great. You may find that it's better for you if you eat a bunch of smaller meals throughout the day. I find that if I go too long without eating, the "results" aren't very... ummm... convenient... meaning that if I put off eating until I "want" to, my digestive tract does it's thing whenever it "wants" to... which seems to be like 5 minutes after i eat a meal that I put off for too long. But that's just me and your body may respond differently.
Also, when my Dr. discharged me, he told me to eat at least one Activia yogurt a day. So that's what I did and I had no problems.0 -
Thanks, everyone! That's what I've been reading so far. I'm trying to stay within 30 grams or less of fat a day. Is that low enough? It's about 25% of my daily calories.
@lis1279, good information to know about eating consistently and not waiting until I'm starving. Never crossed my mind, but I'll try and watch out for it.
Thanks, ladies. :flowerforyou:0 -
I had mine out on 10/3/13 and I have 4 little incisions, so not the same as yours but close I guess. I haven't had any diarrhea that they warned me might happen. My doctor said I could eat normally but I told him I had recently lost alot of weight and didnt eat the greasy fried food anymore. My written instructions after surgery said smaller meals would be easier at first. I had a lack of appetite for almost a week and now it is getting back to normal. I had surgery on a Thursday and I went back to work that next Tuesday.0

Had mine out 3.5 years ago. I had 5 tiny incisions, one hidden in my belly button. I avoid heavy greasy foods now since they don't sit well with me and they're not great for the diet. As for the rest....I have not noticed anything different and it hasn't changed my life a bit except to say I don't hurt any more! YAY on that!0
