What's the stupidest thing you've ever done to lose weight?

When I was a teenager (and probably didn't even really need to lose weight) I tried the Rice Diet. The Rice Diet is pretty much exactly what it sounds like - you don't eat anything but rice. After three days I started reflexively vomiting every time I tried to eat the rice. My body wasn't having anything to do with it. Needless to say, I didn't stick to this horrible diet .... or lose any weight.
Any one else have any "what was I thinking" weight loss horror stories?

I guess its not that outrageous, but it would have to be eating super low calories, working out, and not eating anything back.
I also did the Body by Vi shakes for a bit. I was starving all the time.0 -
I stopped eating0

When I was a teenager, just left home for college, I lived on boiled eggs and chicken noodle soup. Lost loads of weight until my parents realised what I was doing and objected- lol xx
Didnt need to lose weight, just thought it was a good idea!0 -
the first phase of the south beach diet. i have tried others, but never stuck with them long enough to make it to lunch. this one, i think i managed for ~10 & 12 days & stopped when i got loopy(ier)0

Not really a diet but once a bad stomach flu was going around and right when I felt the first twinges of nausea coming on I feasted on half a container of oreos because I knew I would be puking them up soon and wouldn't get fat from them.0

I had a pretty bad motorcycle accident about 4 years ago.
The painkillers I was taking for weeks afterwards killed my appetite, I would go days without eating.
I lost around 30kg in a month. Unfortunately, when I stopped taking the painkillers and started eating again, I put about 50kg back on!
The stupid thing I did was riding my motorcycle after drinking a few too many beers, on a busy street in Thailand at 3am0 -
Starve myself!! Silly me!0

20+ years ago, eating under 1,000 calories a day and not eating back exercise calories. This is what my friends told me would work, and it was before the internet. Could only ever stick it for a short time, passed out more than once and would end up putting the weight back on. Great idea for a 5 ft 10 " female with a large frame0

I stopped eating for about a week when I was probably 13, until my mom caught me.
About a year ago, I tried juice fasting with Naked juice.
Both were terrible ideas.
Not sure why I didn't think of eating right and exercising until now. XD0 -
Everything you can probably think of... From drugs to slim fast , diet pills , etc etc0

Meth. Only I wasn't trying to lose weight, it just happened.0

I tried the magic water diet once. I knew some people in college who swore by it, one was a retired french fashion model, who was going to school in the US, don't laugh, she really was a french fashion model (not just on the internetz - bonjour!). And yes fashion models will do anything to shed quick water bloat, but I did not fully understand that back then. I thought she was wise as she was 20 years older than me at the time and she swore by this.
If you haven't heard of this very stupid diet, it claims that you need to cleanse your body and have to 3-4 liters of water (or more), just drink the magic water all day, with a little bit of lemon juice, a tiny bit of cayenne pepper, and sweetened with a little bit of pure maple syrup.
It was disgusting and horrible. The pepper burned my throat and triggered my gag reflex. I ended up terribly sick after a weekend of this. My throat was so irritated I would cough until I vomited and this after effect lasted for days.
I like spicy food, but pepper water is a BAD IDEA!
I lost weight because I was sick. My stomach got so upset I could not keep anything down. That is all. Worst, stupidest, most ill informed 'diet' ever. And I still hear about people doing it!
I don't even know where this concept came from.0 -
@MuseOfSong - that diet was originally called The Master Cleanse.... Developed by a guy named Stanley Burroughs in the 1940's. That ones been around a loooong time. I tried it once too but I think I only lasted a day!0

(So sorry it didn't work for you)
I've done it & loved it ........ no bread, no booze, no sugar ...... what's the problem
But it did help me get my sweet tooth under control ....... then I lost 40+ lbs & kept it off for 6 years ...... so I don't think it's stupid at all:drinker:0 -

Congrats on your success with it.
I read about south beach as I was losing weight a decade or so ago and it sounded a lot like what I was/am doing.... Phase 2/3 anyway.
In fact, I joined the south beach group here because it's so close to how I've eaten the last decade. It just made sense (minus the commercialism and bars and what not).0 -

I was 18 and went on a liquid protein diet for 20 days. It was gooey and bitter, and taste like metal. In the end I GAINED three pounds! AGH! The next worse thing I did was go on a 20 week liquid shake fast and lost 52 pounds in 5 months! The stupid thing I did was to gain back 65 pounds in the next 18 months.... typical, huh? Got my fingers crossed for this time around to be realistic, simple, "kind" to my body, and lifelong!!!0

I once ate only oranges for 3 days. I was maaaaaybe 115 pounds at the time but i had a tiny little bit of flab on my belly. I was pretty clueless back then.0

I starved and binged for quite some time a few years back and then became bulimic. Now I'm completely binge/purge free and stick to completely clean eating and working out.
Stupidest thing I've ever done. Also maybe tried living off off tea and coffee and rice cakes.0 -

I went to a high that specialized in Science and Math. I loved to do science experiments to try and figure things out. One day I made a bet with some class mates that the human body could subsist on only multivitamins, fructose tablets and water if needed and eating food was not mandatory. Of course we told no adults about my theory and experiment. I lasted about three days before I blacked out in the middle of classes. It was another 24 hours before my stomach to keep anything beyond clear broth down.
All in the name of science!0 -
I went on the Cybergenics Slim Quick diet in the mid 90's. Handful of vitamins, bee pollen, niacin etc. Measely cup of oatmeal for breakfast, can of tuna for lunch, chcken breast and broccolli for supper... tons of water... Stairmaster for 2 hours a day.... worked like a hot damn until I quit and gained it all back plus some. :sad:0

In the first year of college I would go several days without eating (up to 5) and would work out for hours and hours on end. If I would eat I would purge and feel horrible at myself for being so "weak" as to think I deserved to eat anything then I would work out for another hour or so after that as "punishment" or on days I would eat I would have to earn my calories. I would set everything to a net of 0 and then If I ate it had to be burned or I would be over for the day.
Not the smartest or healthiest way of going about things or thinking of myself.0 -
I thought "thermogenic" supplements would help... Ironically, it never occurred to me to eat less, much less starve myself0
