Building a home gym

So far my wife and I only have the treadmill, we are putting our home gym in a spare bedroom (11'2" x 14') and want to know what else we need. On one wall we are going to have a TV setup hanging on the wall. What else do we need in this room? We are both runners but I would like to start getting in to some mild lifting for my non cardio days (so a dumbbell set is most likely a must have), but I have no idea what else we could need.

Thanks in advance!

If I could fit a power rack in my apartment, that would be the only piece of equipment I need. Sounds like you just want some minimal items - oly bar, plates, kettlebells, barbells, jump rope, etc.

I have a pic in my profile of my home gym. I have a TM, stationary bike, weights, weight bench and my redneck squat stands. We have since added rubber flooring and a pull-up bar. I have room to do various floor/body weight stuff as well as weights & cardio. My gym is in a space about 12x8.

It's definitely goal-dependent but I have a squat rack, oly barbell, oly plates, and a bench in my home gym.

I would look into resistance bands and bowflex dumbells.

Thanks for the tips so far, some more information:

Squats or anything related to squats are a huge no-go for me, they kill my knees.
I prefer to run, that's my passion, and I like distance running, but I want to have something to help me tone my muscles. I don't have any specific goals around lifting, but I want there to be definition but I am definitely not looking in to building bulk.

Yep, super bulky here....if you want definition, you need to lower your body fat while maintaining the muscle you have.

Weightlifting doesn't build bulk unless you do it in a very specific way.

What it does do is build strength.
