Cross trainer

Are cross trainers and elliptical trainers the same thing? (probably a stupid question)

Also, i don't have a lot of money so had to make do with a second hand one and the display is a bit dodgy.
Just wondering if the calorie-burn in the database is relatively accurate as i don't want to overestimate what i'm doing.
