I have not been over in months. I try and plan ahead. If i know im going to be eating or drinking more calories i will fit in an extra workout that day.

This is exactly what I do....plan, plan, plan!!

I certainly wouldn't worry about 1 calorie over OP - being that pedantic is becoming obsessive IMO. Calorie counting is not an exact science after all.

My daily amount goes over several times a week by up to around 150 calories - but then it also goes under on other days to around 150 calories , I don't aim to eat EXACTLY my quota every day.
I do aim to have my weekly average around my quota - would not be stressing about it being < 100 or so over though.

many would call that an eating disorder... especially if you ate the food and did the workout afterwards due to guilt.

"I'd like to have a beer, but, if I do, I have to run a mile"

    Does that sound healthy?

there is no amount. if I can reasonably workout to burn off extra calories, I will try to, but there have been times where I've been 1,000 calories over my goal or more. Not often, but it happens!

I can agree that it *can* be unhealthy, but it can also just be smart. I don't see anything wrong with planning ahead or deciding to workout a little longer if you know that you'll be drinking or eating a lot of calories later in the day. I think it just depends on your mindset, it's one thing if ti's done out of guilt, but another if it's done just to make room for a planned indulgence, or at least that's my opinion.

As many as I need to in order to not be hungry.

I don't. Almost never. If you're not consistent, how can you expect real results?
I'm not really consistent, but it has a way of balancing itself out. Looking your calories from a weekly amount instead of a daily amount can help make up for inconsistent days. I've certainly got results that way!

I'm usually 100-300 calories under, and I let myself go up to 200 calories over on the rare occasions that I go over. It's most likely to happen the day after a day that I'm drastically under.

It is all about the average.
If I ate 120 low yesterday and go 100 over today it means my average for the 2 is 10 under.
But even more, I am working on the idea that this is about living my life, and being more aware of what I eat. If I go out with friends and have a 1500 cal meal and drink a bit of wine (Ok, a bottle), that is called living. I am not going to spend my entire rest of my life worrying "Did I go over?". It is about learning to pay attention to what I am doing to my body. Go over today, do some extra stuff at the gym and make sure I am under the rest of the week.

Going over on cals is just a speed bump on the road I am traveling. It might slow me down a little, but it doesn't stop the progress.

Without being consistent on a daily basis - just more or less sticking to my weekly quota - I have reached my goal weight.

Like blackjack, I try to get as close as I can to my goal without going over.

However, I was over last night by 60 cals and the day before by 300 calories. I am not eating wildly like I was doing prior to mfp, and having the awareness of how many cals are in a certain portion of food is powerful information. I just am not going to beat myself up if I am over in cals. Usually I am not over by more than 500 cals and there have been a lot of days that I was under so it works out. If it is truly a lifestyle ( and for me it is), I can't worry about every morsel I put in my mouth.

No, but I would run a mile to get my beer.
Actually, that sounds like a pretty good motivational workout on some weekend with friends.
If I run a 10 minute mile, I burn 144 cals. My reward when I get to the mile mark is a 64 cal lite beer. After drinking it I am at -80 cals. Do it enough to drink a 6 pack and I am down 480 cals, and drunk.
That bicycle bar I saw in Indy where the patrons have to pedal it around is making more sense now. http://www.handlebarindy.com/
