Do NOT forget the porn. I guess you can use your computer for that.

Hardly ever, I don't have the attention span for it and can't stand reality shows which seem to be the only thing on these days. Have a 55" tv in the family room that's impressive though.

It just seems like not having that thing in the living room opens up a whole new world of potential

But then what would the dogs do?

I need to watch my sports (hockey!! football!!). Other than that I rarely watch TV. Last year I felt like the TV was in the way so I traded in the big entertainment center for a small flat screen that fits on a beautiful table that fits the decor of my family room. Best decision ever! We still have a TV for when we do want to cozy up with a movie or sports (or for days like today, where I am 33 weeks pregnant and have a horrid cold!), but it doesn't really take up any space anymore.

The only TV I watch is on the phone app while I am on the elliptical.

I did not own a TV for ~9 years.

Bought one when my girlfriend (now wife) moved in and insisted that she wants one.

Without TV I read a lot more, went out more, went earlier to bed etc.

I did not miss anything. If you want news then radio + internet >>>> TV.

If it wasnt for my wife I would prefer a nice projector for DVDs etc.

I had this in my living room:

Now I would probably put this there:

i watch approximately 6 hours of tv a month and it's usually 3 movies on my blueray player- no cable or streaming anything. in fact i only just got a laptop last month but i dont go on the internet with it often cause im worried itll catch something.

Im making a list of alternative activities I can do instead of watching TV...

mastering your bodyweight on the livingroom floor - headstands and headstands
    gym time wooooooooooooo
    reading
    researching
    restoring something old
    inventing something
    building a man cave
    robotics and science
    math and music
    social activities
    cooking and grilling
    cleaning and organizing
    playing video or board games
    drag racing
    go karting
    outdoor adventures
    kayaking
    hiking
    bubble baths
listening to music while you read

or just do something else WHILE you watch tv. that totally works.

I could give up watching TV, but not my television. It's big and shiny. Also has killer resolution for porn movies.

I'd have no problem canceling my cable tv and just maintaining an internet connection. The very little that I actually watch TV could be encompassed entirely by Firefly/Serenity, Dr. Who, and a few choice movies, all of which are on Netflix.

If your TV/EC doesn't fit with how you want to decorate, why not move it somewhere else that you can still enjoy the few things you do like?

Blasphemy! lol. I just upgraded our DVR system so it could record 5 programs at once since I live with other people, and we all have our favorite shows. I do admit that sometimes I get a bit frustrated at how much of a slave I and society as a whole have become to television, modern technology and the concept of instant gratification in general, so I make sure to strictly limit how much I watch it daily. But no, I will never give it up completely. Kudos to you though! :)
  • I didn't own a TV until I got married. Now I just read while she watches. I'll comment on some of the plays on sports. Don't much care for the rest of it. I guess if you want to just put the thing in storage give it a try but I wouldn't buy new furniture for a few months.

WIthout TV, before long you wonder how you ever had time to sit and watch TV.

^This^ Watching TV just feels like watching other people living their lives while mine is just slipping away.

no tv, no internet (except for work, and that is MFP only). don't have time. too busy working + working out, every day. at night i must steal a few minutes away from sleep to read. :frown: 'free time' is for friends, fun, music and art.

Went 4 months without a TV once while livng on the beach. It was beyond awesome.

At our house now we have just one TV in the basement. It is so nice interacting with the kids in the family room, kitchen, and dining room without the world intruding on us in the background.

    You'll love it!

My husband and I got rid of the TV during the Gulf War. We occasionally watch something on the computer (Dr. Who, old Michael Palin travelogues) but we don't miss the TV. It was just time consuming and depressing. And the kids both were reading at a twelfth grade level in the sixth grade.

No TV and no cable. I have internet only. I will occasionally watch something on my computer.

We arrange the furniture differently as the TV is not the focal point. I love it.
