Reliable calorie burn estimation from swimming

Greetings,

I am looking for a reliable method of calculating calorie burns from swimming. I have an HRM but I am thinking its not designed to be immersed into chlorinated water for an hour or more at a time.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Basically, bodyweight and distance and it's good to go.

I swim with mine, but the manual specifically said it was ok to do that - but to avoid pushing the buttons underwater.
