Does this TDEE equation seem right?

Sorry, I don't do the math. I try, but I don't.

BMR comes up to 1500.

TDEE without exercise at 1799
TDEE with 5x week exercise at ~2325
20% cut puts me at 1860/day

In my brain, this means I'm putting in five workouts a week at about 525 calories each and not eating back my exercise calories.

Makes sense? No? I get lost in my brain thinking about this, and I'm sick of MFP guidelines.

That sounds correct. With the TDEE - method you do not eat back exercise calories.

    check against this: http://scoobysworkshop.com/calorie-calculator/

I did mine a week ago and am eating a bit more than I used to, I will give it a month and see if I loose again, so far I have not gained and am eating 500-600 more a day. not all my exercise cals because it would be too much to eat!

Your ticker says you only have 13lbs to lose. If that is your end goal, you should only be at a 10-15% cut from your TDEE. The numbers sounds right, but your deficit is too high.

I'm thinking end goal may be closer to twenty, but I'll have to see when I get there. I'm going to go with a 15% cut. Thanks!

And thanks for the replies. I figured that was how it went. Yay!

Sounds about right...just keep in mind that these calculators are just a good starting point....you'll likely need to adjust a little as per real world results. My TDEE was actually slightly higher than I thought it was...when I went to maintenance I kept losing very slowly so had to up it by 150 calories or so. You could go either way...just make adjustments as necessary.

So it makes sense, right, that MFP would be totally wrong on this, since they only project this number from net cals? (I can't believe that in total, I've used this site over a year and never figured out how this works...)

What's your activity level set to in MFP? If you're using the TDEE method, you can more or less ignore that projection, as, you're correct, it may or may not appropriately incorporate your activity, depending on your settings. But it really doesn't matter - what matters is that you eat the right amount and burn the right amount; if you know what you burn from other sources and you're tracking what you eat, MFP's calculations are meaningless for you.

Yeah, the you'll lose X Lbs per week or whatever is going to be inaccurate because you're using a completely different method from MFP. MFP is a NEAT method calculator and you're using the TDEE method. MFP assumes no exercise in your activity level...the part where you have calories burned, workouts, minutes, etc does not go into your actual equation with MFP...it's just for your guidance and motivation and as a reminder that you said you were going to do it. MFP doesn't actually give you credit for exercise until you actually perform it...thus the reason you get extra calories and are supposed to eat back with MFP. Obviously not the case with TDEE.

Also, I think you'll burn more than 525 calories per week...more like 2,625. If you really wanted to compare to the net MFP number you would 1975-525= 1,450 net.

Oh, whoops. That was supposed to be 525 cals a workout, 5x a week. My bad! Haha.
