LIVING FOR THE MATRIX

A friend recommended I share this excerpt from my blog on the board:

"It is easy to start on a good and productive path of eating smart and moving more. We use a variety of matrices to mark our progress including weight, measurements, clothing fit, distance, weight lifted, pace, duration, calories burned, etc. The matrices can be extremely useful but how often do we get fixated on always wanting a personal record or personal best. Soon we are trying to hit scale readings without paying attention to our strength or over all wellness; or pushing for a heavier lift; or longer/faster run. Soon the numbers are more important than the changes and health of our bodies. We get disappointed when we cannot always beat ourselves, hurt and injure ourselves by pushing too hard, and generally end up feeling like failures despite actually performing at the best we've been in the last year, or decade or life-time. Remember, everything we do is to optimize ourselves. Improvement is not linear and just because we start out sedentary and heavy and soft, it doesn't mean that super active, super thin or super hard is really the optimized version of our self. We are moving towards balanced being."
