Newbie to HRMs --- Best bang for a buck?

Hey everybody! I have been tending to go by what the machines at the gym say I burned for calories, or altering what MFP suggests by 50 or 100, depending on the workout. However, I'd like to be more accurate to calories actually burned!
I've seen lots of posts about using a HRM to get accruate calories burned. I was wondering what brands people have been using and what they like/don't like about their HRM? I'm trying to get the most bang for my buck!
Thanks!
Rach

Polar FT4 is a great deal. Polar is pretty much "the" name in HRM and the FT4 is reasonably priced and has the necessary settings to provide accurate data. I think I got mine on Amazon for ~$50-60.0
