Fruit sugars

Hi everyone, I like to start most days with fruit for breakfast (a bowl containing a variety of cut melon, grapes, blueberries etc) but at the end of the day, my sugar intake has exceeded the suggested amount. I feel as though I am doing the right thing by my body by eating the fruit however or am I kidding myself? I am relatively new to MFP and so far my weight has been dropping. Thanks for any suggestions.

If you don't have a health reason to worry about sugars (diabetic, triglycerides etc) and you know that most of your intake is from naturally occurring sources (ie fresh fruit) then, were I you, I wouldn't worry about it.0

I've been doing a lot of reading about fruit as like yourself I eat a lot of it. Yes, fruits DO have a lot of sugar and carbs but they're GOOD sugars. The nutrients you can get from fruit far outweighs the negative aspects. Fruit is healthy for the body. In saying that, moderation is key. Cantaloupe is relatively low in sugar because it's a water based fruit and has a good amount of fiber compared to how much sugar is in it. If you are eating so much fruit make sure you stay away from other sugary foods as you are already getting your intake.
Perhaps substitute the grapes if you're concerned about sugar as grapes are one of the highest in sugars. Same with cherries, mango, apples and bananas. Berries aren't the lowest in sugar but the nutritional value is extremely high. Maybe try having it with low fat natural yoghurt and a bit of untoasted plain muesli too (make sure to check the sugars per 100g on the packets as some brands are a lot higher than others, e.g. yoghurt shouldn't have more than 5g per 100g of sugar in it) as this would mean you're eating a little bit less sugar and getting a bit more protein from the yoghurt and oats which will aid digestion.0 -
Unless you have a medical reason to monitor your sugar intake, don't worry about it.

I had the same concern. I like to have fresh fruit as much as possible. But as the other posters pointed out, you shouldn't worry about it unless there is a health concern. One of my favorite quotes is "You're not going to get fat from eating too many fruits or vegetables". That quote was in response to how many fruits and vegetables are considered not as good for you based on sugar or fat content. But those sugars and fats are healthy!0 -
