Light Strength Training Everyday

Does anybody do light strength training everyday with 1/2 hour of treadmill/elliptical? I'm at a plateau and want to jump start my weight loss again, so I was thinking I'd do 30 minutes of Kelly Coffee Myers weight lifting DVD's and then 30 minutes of treadmill/elliptical.

Looking for thoughts on this!!

I reached a plateau when I started doing strength training. It's a natural process. I am not a professional trainer so these are observations of my body reactions and not guidelines or anything. Strength training let me build muscles while I was following a weight loss calorie intake. A pound of muscle is the same as a pound of fat. The difference is that a pound of muscle is smaller than a pound of fat. As I lost fat, I was building muscles, so my weight loss stopped for a while. Little by little, my fat cells shrank and my muscles got a bit bigger. Finally my fat cells became smaller than my muscles so I started to lose weight again.

The best thing to do is to measure yourself periodically. Even though you might be plateauing on the scale you may find that your clothes are getting looser.

I am at maintenance now - actually a bit below. I exercise about three or four times a week doing a combination of strength training and cardio.

Don't have the aim of *light strength* training. Have the aim of getting stronger. Follow 5x5 or any recommended programme. You only need to do weights 2-3x a week to get good results.

Work on your form and when you feel more comfortable with the weights increase them. Do not get in to the rut of lifting light weights. It's fairly pointless after a while and don't worry about being bulky. You won't probably ever get there.
